anyone rebuffed a culturally won city?

Just curious what would happen if you 'rebuffed' a city that was in awe of your culture and wanted to join your civ?

would it piss them off? would they try again? any info would be appreciated!

On the Chieftan level, I have rebuffed cities. After a few turns, they have offered again. From what I can tell, there are no negative reactions from rebuffing.

I have rebuffed several citys, it does not change a thing as far as the rebuffed city is concerned. they will attempt later to become part of your society again though

Same. Rebuffed 4 in current game. They've kept offering, and not so often to be irritating either. Finally took one the other day. Pitied it, really.

The Americans actually rebuffed taking one of my cities today. That was nice since I really needed that city.
