Anyone seen the expansion pack?

I found out in this forum that there was an expansion pack for SMAC, I still have not seen it anywhere, do you know if it can be purchased in the web? can it be downloaded from anywhere?

The expansion pack is called Sid Meier's Alien Crossfire or SMAX (just wanted to clear to any newbies ). I don't think it possible to even get SMAC + SMAX (planetary pack). However, there is a laptop collection from EA with SMAC, SMAX, SC3000 unlimited and some other games.

Alien Crossfire's not that good. Some of the human factions are okay, especially the pirates who rock, but the aliens suck, and look stupid. I usually replace the believers faction with the pirates and use the other 6 original factions.

On the other hand, the expansion allows for a good bit more modification... Totally worth the generally cheap price to me.

The alien ai is far superior to the "human" ai....mind you, it's still bad, but it is much harder than against the human factions which play very aggresively against you, but have no real advantages. The alien ai is extremely aggressive, AND has a ton of advantages over you.

Unless you're cheap and deck out your faction with all sorts of crap.

Yeah the Laptop Collection is where I got the expansion. its only 20 bucks and you get 5 games. SMAC, SMAX, Sim City Unlimited, Red Alert 2, and Tiger Woods PGA Tour.

Also interesting -- SMAX was finally released for Macs at some point in the relatively recent past -- SMAX for a Mac is under $10!

Check out eBay before paying Amazon their inflated prices.
If you dont find it check again a few days later.
As a matter of fact i found 3 copies of SMAX currently (sept 8,2004, 20.00hours GMT) being offerd up for sale.
