If anyone has got the game to work, could you have a look and see if there is a file called crc.dat somewhere, as it wont start for me because it can't find this file.

If someone was able to send me the file it would be great. Thanks

Found in

C:\Documents and Settings\[[YOUR-USER]]\Application Data\My Games\Civilization 4\cache

Game works fine for me. could not find crc.dat on my hard drive.

EDIT: Nevermind, search for hidden files. Duh. It's in

C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\cache

EDIT 2:

Furthermore, this file contains only a single string when opened with notepad.

This still isn't working, it just gets to the checking xml then stops in the same way, except now in the logs it has

[601.468] DBG: FILE Cat Init
[601.609] DBG: Using XML cache
[601.609] DBG: Game Init
[601.609] DBG: Multiplayer Init

Instead of:

[601.468] DBG: FILE Cat Init
[601.609] DBG: NOT Using XML cache, failed to find crc.dat file
[601.609] DBG: Game Init
[601.609] DBG: Multiplayer Init

That is as far as it gets, what the hell is wrong??

EDIT:

Anyone else that is having this problem, try playing the game under a different user on your computer, this got me past all of the problems, and it got through all of the sections of the loading screen at the start, now all i have to deal with is the render error.

deleted cache folder/added crc.dat file to it/did the whole different user thing/reinstalled more times then I wish to remember. Thinking about selling my soul for a game fix. Guess I may need to just wait for a major patch or something.
