I just wanted to know if anyone plays something besides civ around here, I need something to get me off civ because its started to take over.Any game suggestions?

And yep I dont get out much.... :nuke:

Here's a thread that discusses pretty much all of the turn based strategy games. If you're looking for something completely different, you can't go wrong with Half-Life 2 (or the first one for that matter). The Chronicles of Riddick game got a great review in the new PCGamer, but I haven't played it. Neverwinter Nights was a great RPG . . .

dont have sim city 4000 now?
Sim Cityy 4000 doesn't exist but Sim City 4 does, however Sim City 2000 is better than Sim City 4

yes but sim city 2000 is kind of...
i'd probably get something like sim city 3000

3000 is inferior

Simcity3000??? Worst. Sim. Ever.
Well, not the worst Sim ever, just the worst Sim City ever. It actually isn't too bad, but it falls below all the other sim city versions.

Love the classic or buy the new one, IMO. (I fall into the love the classic, personnally.)
The classic is fine, but Sim City 2000 adds a bit more depth, and it's good depth, not the silliness seen in 3k. 4 adds a whole lot of depth which at the same time adds more interest and boredom (becasue of more micromanagement)

Anyway, if you've got time on your hands, look into World of Warcraft. Very invovled game.
Can't be better than Sim City 2000, though.

Sim City 4 and more recently Hearts of Iron 2. HOI 2 rules, the graphics aren't much to look at but the gameplay detail is astounding. Right now I am fighting WWII as Peru. It is 1942, I have gotten my government over to fascist, have conquered Ecuador and Columbia in my quest to reunite the nations liberated by Bolivar, and am considering joining the Axis.

Well, SimEarth was pretty bad, and I never played SimLife very much, but other than that...

By classic I meant 2000, though the original was great. It's one of the first games I remember playing. I remember greatly anticipating 2000 for quite sometime too. 3000 soured me on the series. I haven't done too much of 4 (don't even own it), but it seems playable. I more do Ceasar 3 for CBS these days, though. I like its system better.

Well, not for its time, anyway ;)

HOI was a fantastic game, but even more of a time sucker than Civ, so I didn't get HOI 2. I was also frustrated by all the patch work necessary before HOI was playable. I hear that's less of an issue with the second one. I think that board may have been the first one I ever posted on . . .

Eh, Sim Earth wasn't that bad I dunno about worst sim ever, the first Sim Golf wasn't very good and Sim Health wasn't exactly the best either

Well Sim City 3000 did have some upsides, the graphics were certainly better and variable slopes was nice, but it's not of the leap that Sim City Classic to 2000 had. Plus, the interface was somewhat annoying and the cute stuff kind of turned me off.

It's worth getting, but it's hard on your system if you don't have a very new machine

Sim City 4 does make the leap in magnitude that Sim City to Sim City 2000 did with it's adding of much more nieghborhood management rather then city management in areas of education and healthcare, the agriculture was done properly, building on slopes became a possibility and of course regionalism all added a lot to the experience. The real issues are in the bugginess of the transportation system, the annoying zoning system, and the ceaseless micromanagement, if those could be resolved it would exceed Sim City 2000.

I hate sim city 4 and love sim city 3000. SC4 sucks because (a) it requires too much fiddly crap, (b) the crappy sims wanna stick crappy little roads everywhere, (c) everything costs more, and it budgets by month rather than by year, so you think you're only making $100 a year, but you're really making $1200 a year. It's also got lots of things which I don't like, but can't remember. Overall, SC4 sucks. SC3k rocks because it's basically just SC2k, but with nicer graphics. It adds some nice features, but then again it removes some nice features too (I can't think of which off hand). Classic was my favourite though, because it was so simple. Just *pop* and you're done. None of this light/medium/hardcore density crap. And if you want an airport or a seaport, it's just *pop* and its down. No crappy hospitals and crap to worry about either. All in all, less is more, and classic certainly was less.

well its early morning and I already got sim city 2000, and I have to say you guys are right, you can tell that sc 3000 is worse than sim city 2000. Ive only played the demo of sc3000 and yeah, Im gonna go get sc 2000 today ( my own copy, not a borrowed one) so thanx.

Although I realize that with the time I spend on My Comp. ill need more games.

Or I could actually hook up with my ex once again, because I need something in my life other than computers.

Sim City 3000 did lack the charm of 2000. I can only imagine 4 would be much worse. Maxis has went downhill ever since they've been bought by EA.

Operation Flashpoint is the greatest game ever created, and it's still evolving with dozens of addons & mods popping up every day.

SC2k just doesn't do it for me, I got into it a few years back, but I bought it as part of a 3 game collection. The other 2 games were civ2 & settlers2, which I found both more interesting than SC2k.
