Something just occured to me. We have Ivory. Which is the best of all luxuries do to being able ot build SoZ. So wouldn't it be unbalanced to give us it but not give it to other teams. Leading to believe that it probaly balances out later.
 
This game has custom rules that allow anyone to build SoZ. As for the lacking of a resourse you figure we will be at all the resource techs first so we can deal with that when it comes up.
 
O good. I was just worried.
 
But how are we going to deal with that? For example, say we lack a resource of Coal. Who are we going to invade? We won't have a very strong millitary by then. We'd simply have to trade the coal, but maybe the others only have one resource too.
 
Because this is a custom map and everything else has been balanced before so it will be safe to assume that it will be balanced for all teams. So for instance if we don't have coal on our main island then other teams won't either. Thats why i feel we need to have a presence on at least one island. As i said before we should be ahead and will have the ability to act first if we need to.

And think about it who else will know about this lack of a resource, FREE. Everyone else will be blind to it while FREE and us can launch an attack on someone to capture a resource. Trading is also an option for instance if FREE or us have 2 of a resource (or even 1 and trading it back a fourth :crazyeye: ). Or we can agree on a deal from another team, like we will pull you up to technology x for the exchange of a city (that city has a resource under it that they can't see :mischief: ).

There are so many things that can happen and so many ways to correct a problem that its not worth it to think about now.
 
Given the way the map is set up, I think it is extremely likely that we have every resource - we have jungle and mountains, desert and tundra. Heck, we have a jungle tile NEXT TO a tundra tile, which is just hilarious.
 
I wouldn't be surprised if there is a resource we don't have. I do think though that what we don't have, the others also will not have. I agree it would be wise to settle our northern island just in case.
 
Maybe we'll all lack one resource which will then be on the island between two teams?

I still think we have not found all the islands. I suspect more land exists to our SE and NW. If there is land there it could also hold resources.
 
Yes but most people here seem to think it's more important to fill our own island first, giving the others, who have already filled out their island, a lot of time to place cities on all the small islands taking all the possible resources that might be out there.
 
Well, I was also thinking we should fill our continet first but that was before we secured a peace treaty with BABE and before we spotted mounted warriors on our island. We'll have our first post-anarchy settler next turn. I'm all for sending it to the northern island as long as that's our consensus.

:agree: I think it's profoundly unlikely BABE will try to settle on our continent.
However, it's VERY likely they will settle that Northern Island.
I think we should try to beat them to it.
 
Yes, but what if they beat us to it? Will we then...

a: Sail back to one of the one-tile islands off our coast and settle them?
b: Sail back to settle a city on our own continent?
c: Try to squeeze a city on the island?

But I don't know if the island is large enough to squeeze two cities on it...

But as an off topic note, I will be getting civ complete (couldn't find only the expansion pack :sad:) next thursday so I I can open the save then and look for myself !:dance:
 
If we have to turn back and there are no city sites left to settle (not likely) we can add the settler to a city to raise its pop.
 
Settling the one-tile island sounds best to me, too.
Don't ship a settler around for Ages if we are producing lots of them.
And don't produce any unneeded settlers, if we can also build two workers instead.

However, if BABE found one town on that island, would we squeeze our town in there, too? Or is that too aggressive?

Sharing an island would offer the opportunity to trade workers, right? :hmm:
 
I don't see why squeezing a city on the island would be offensive. It's not their island after all. I don't see a label with 'BABE' attached to the island :D.
 
Not sure what we could trade if we share an island. But I do think it shoulod not be considered aggressive to squeeze a city there - depending of course on where they plant theirs. But certainly they'd found on the coast leaving us room!
 
Now that we have a recent map from FREE we can see four of the eleven tile islands. SCI has iron, horses and saltpeter. The one near BABEland (which we do not have a complete view of) has iron and horses. FREE #1 (with Dusty Harbor) has iron, horses and saltpeter but FREE #2 (with Sid City) has only horse and saltpeter - no iron. What does The Council make of that?
