WHat do you think of the new 3D art??

Am I the only one to feel.. uneasy?!?.. about it?

The perception is weird... The world seems small Three houses filling what could be a continent. I think my court yard is bigger than the whole new civilization world.

Anyway, civ is not about graphics. But, am I the only one to think the new 3D art is weird?

i guess i'll get use to it. I personally like it better then what we have now, but it will take getting use to.

I like it but I was under the assuption that this thread would have a poll.

I personally am a bit worried about the effects this will have on the modding community,
I like the graphics, but people are talking about re-sizing and single units and things -
so some maps and collections that will come out nay feature a haphazard rather than uniform approach - and for those like me who like to mod the mods, it might be difficult to add new elements in.

It doesn't have the same eye-poppin' pleasure to it like moving from Civ2 to Civ3. But, they also said they're not finished with the graphics, and we've already seen how much they've improved in the past few months. . . maybe they'll be even cooler.

It might take some getting used to, but I wager within 6 months of playing cIV, we'll be going back to Civ3 and it will look and feel "weird" ..

I get the impression from the screen shots that everything has been zoomed WAY in. When a new game like this comes out the people who do the PR are not always the people who actually PLAY the game. They are (I hope) trying to create what they consider to be a beautiful screen shot.

It is like with the SIMS 2. You guys saw the comercials for it on TV? Well Sims 1 was in 2d, and then when the new 3D sims 2 came out they had all these "screen shots" and "game action video" that looked really weird, but the problem was that everything was zoomed in so that you could see the expressions on everyones' faces. When in reality no player was going to play the game on that level of zoom.

That is what I am assuming based on what I saw. On that E3 demo video Soren was doing it looked normal to me. I liked it.

I like it! modders may not be happy with it but i'm sure they'll find ways to mod it anyhow.

I like it too - although it seems a little bit messy right now. Judging from the screenshots it can be a little hard to see some things clearly when zoomed out to Civ3 standard perspective, but hopefully it will get better when some of the graphics are adjusted a bit.

I do like the feel of it and the animations on the terrain are reminiscent of the classic Settlers game where one could often just sit and watch the going-ons and as such it feels much more immersive than Civ3.

I thought the combats in the video looked really cool, just wish they were a little longer, maybe an option for shorter or longer battle animations? It seemed to be over more quickly than when two elite units duke it out in Civ3.

One thing that looks a little over the top is the way the millitary units take up so much space. When they're in a city you can't really see the city, and seeing what buildings are in the city from the map view is a great new feature. I hope there is a way to turn off the view of units fortified in a city (as in Civ3) - but with a small symbol that shows the city is protected by xx units.

As long as content isn't sacrificed for art, I am all for the evolution of a series.

That doesn't appear to be the case, and actually it seems the art helps the mechanics with the zoom and demographics; plus allowing easier to read information.(unit health, WYSWYG, etc.)

I like it, although I will miss the old style.

i liked the 3D art, the more then one unti idea, and the over all graphics :goodjob:

When I went to Civ2, I didn't miss Civ1... When I went to Civ3, I didn't miss Civ2. When I found a download for Civ1Win, I suddenly got nostalgic and missed Civ1.... so, I guess I'll miss Civ3 by the time Civ5 rolls around! :D

but you would you miss civ 2 when civ 4 comes out right? :crazyeye: :D :goodjob:

@Chose: Probably, following the logic. I guess when cIV comes out I'll have to reload Civ2 to see if I miss it. :) Heck, maybe I'll do it just to watch my advisors argue again, for old times sake!

To me, the graphics are like a bonus. If the game is bad but the graphics are good, I don't like it. If the graphics is bad, but the game good, I like it. The only reason I don't play civ2 is because I don,t like the support. only.

I don't like it now, but I guess I will learn to live with it if the game mechanics is good.
