Agreed, Gamespot is *very* biased in favor of differant companies. I wouldn't trust one of there reviews ever.
 
Media Edition is sometimes incompatible with some games, so it's a red herring to think that you won't have any problems with it.

Media Edition is aimed at media boxes - computers with TV cards in that can record and playback video. So if that's what you're aiming for (rather than games) it makes sense to go Media Edition.

See if the 'puter does what you want without Media Edition - most likely it will.

As to HOW you upgrade - it's not a small task, but mostly automatic. Set the computer to boot from CD and boot from the Media Edition disk.

Media Edition is not to be confused with Millennium Edition, pre Windows 2000 version that is very unpopular (even less popular than Windows 98SE).
