Auto-bombard. How will it work?

Auto-bombard sounds great, but how will it work? I assume that it allows you to just set a stack of units to bombard a particular square for a turn?

I like to have stacks of artillary, and bombard until a specific goal is met. Generally this is until the main defending units are down to 1 HP, but it amy also be when a metropolis has been reduced to a city, or a city to a town in population. I then like to move the unused artillary to the next target.

I wonder if you can set specific goals like this, or whether it is just a "all units bombard this turn".

Any thoughts??

I would be thrilled to death with all units in a stack bombard.
Late game when I have a stack of 30+ artillery hitting a town, it is very slow to finish those turns with
hit b, click target 30 times.

Yeah, I'm with ainwood. I like to bombard one at a time because my bombardments are goal-based. I find my goal is often met before all the artillery have fired. After that goal is met (like all defenders are down to 2 HP or less) I sometimes find another, like bombarding a resource. Or, I'll save the artillery to move after my units have captured more territory.

I'm unsure on how valuable the auto-bombard will be to me.

It's been my understanding auto-bombard it like a continuous bombing campaign. You can set a bomber to auto-bombard a square every turn, or something like that. That's my understanding at least.

If my artillery is anything to go by, it is just a loop with an instruction to print the message "Artillery bombardment failed"

They couldn't hit a cow's arse (ass, if you prefer :D ) with a banjo...

The game really needs automated NAVAL bombardment. Jeez, that gets tedious after awhile. Just automate it to attack any connected resource, or improvement, or city.

BTW, I long ago edited out the bombardment function for all units below destroyers. The idea that ironclads could take out improvements is false; it is absurd to imagine frigates firing cannonballs just 500 yards past the shorline being able to eliminate improvements.
