auto workers and polution control

I gererally don't automate workers except for polution control.I find looking for areas of polution a pain and time wasting. So I have been putting lots of them on auto for polution. Yet I still fing unattending polution. When I say "a lot" I mean about 2 for every 3 cities.

When I first auto them, thay race off to clear polution. I wonder what happens when they catch up. Do they wait for more work, or do they retire and chat with other works in a vinyard or mountain resort?

What is your experience? I am playing PTW.

When there´s nothing more to clean up , the workers will gather in your cities.

I find that they go and rest in a city until more pollution comes and then go clean it up. Maybe your crews can not keep up with the pollution and you need to automate a few more.

It depends how you automate them, if you just select the auto clear production order, they just stop where they are and crop up in the normal unit cycle. If you want them to clear pollution that has occured since they stopped you have to give the order again.
