So I started a game to try out the new patch and realized I was doing really well. I was teching up faster than everyone else and expanding pretty well. I didn't have happiness problems which is sometimes a problem for me. It wasn't until the final few turns of the game that I realized I was playing on Chieftain... I am a freaking idiot.

On a side note, I was getting some weird deals with Hiawatha (and I don't think it was because I was playing on chieftain). He was on a peninsula and I pretty much had him Culturally surrounded. Since I was so close he was guarded. However he kept wanted to get open borders from me, I'm guessing so he could actually move out and expand. So I tried to see how much gold I could get out of him and he ended up giving me 81 gold for open borders. I don't think it is a Chieftain thing because other Civs that I was "Friends" with were buying open borders for the standard 50 and 43 gold.

I was selling Luxuries for a lot less though (240 gold) but I'm thinking that is actually a Chieftain thing.

Nope. Now you actually have to try to be good friends to get a good deal.

As far as I could tell, luxuries don't sell for 300 anymore, not even to friends. It's should be a lot more balanced now. :)

Open borders sell for 10g so no more abuse there either!

The reason I think of is that previously it provided 300 gold for 5 happiness i.e 60 gold per unit happiness. Since now luxuries only provide 4 happiness so you get 240 gold for selling it.
