I think that the AI should never accept less gold/techs than you have already offered it for something. I know it might make trading more of a pain but it would be more realistic. When I propose a trade with the AI, I go back and forth offering a little more and a little less until I find out the exact least the AI will accept. Honestly though, the AI should never accept less than it has already been offered for something. A change wouldn't really affect play. Instead of bouncing around a target, you would just have to creep up to it, but I think it would make AI bargaining more realistic. Even better would be to only allow a certain number (3-5?) of offers to each AI per turn so that we would not be able to always creep up to the maximum trade value. If there were some limits like these, I would certainly have to put alot more thought into trade offers than I do now.

Your new Hero.

It would also be helpful if your foreign advisor, who clearly knows exactly what the best deal you can get is, would tell you rather than wait for you to ask... "Sire, we won't be able to get more than 759 gold for what we're currently offering them."

There was another thread on this kind of stuff. I think it was embedded in a diplomacy thread. At any rate my idea is that you don't know what the AI civ will take until you make an official offer. If your offer is insulting then the computer will tell you. Too many insulting offers and the AI will stop accepting offers for a random amount of time.
