Here are the best four I got after too many tries for my taste. Pics are in order ofof the saves, and note that all are at 4000 BC except for the Greek game (first pic). The English start (third game) has a few decent city sites nearby, but the capital isn't exceptional. The last start has a start somewhat improved by Domesticaion. Of the four, the second is probably my favorite.

guys, I think you need to play without me first, I seem to be too dumb to install this thing. Maybe I am too stupid but the process isn't that clear from the link and following instructions: just put files into their respective folders and new ones

well, this left me guessing and I screwed it up, result I can't play neither 1.03 nor 1.04. Now downloading 1.02 and the 1.03 patch

ok, just reinstalled 1.02 and 1.03 now if someone could actually tell an idiot like me how to install that 1.04. maybe in a way that even I can understand

Oops, you are right romeo. That is now fixed. Bezhokov, that was my way of telling you that you might have to that you are stuck cleaning up after me again, as you were last game. Sorry, but it is too late for you to leave now.

We can't have Bez leave. I had my sig modified just for him.
Plus how will we get all our cities shield optomized after parks? He can do it in half the time I can.
Plus he doesn't have to cleanup after me.
How many boards could the Mongols hoard if the Mongol Horde got Bored? I like Mil, plus the Keshik is an absolutely dominant UU. Plus we would have horses and FP camels in the capitol. A total winner in my book.

1.04 zipped file is not full blown version but rather update from 1.02.
It only contains additional files needed to play. So if you simply overwrite your existing folders with those in 1.04 package you will totally break RAR.
Instead you need to go to each subfolder in 1.04 package and copy files only into corresponding subfolder in previous RAR release. Inconvinient, but that's how it is going to be until final version is released.
Or you can use XCOPY utility instead.

I think I figured my mistake when i tried to unzip here at work for testing and realised that there are quite a few folders created. Shouldn't be a problem then. just shows I am getting senile

Hey, Bezhukov, don't be a sour grape and join what's with different playstyles and intollerance? Are you trying to say this team has members who actually do not know how to play CIV?

Actually, I guess there are enough votes to go with the Mongols, so we can start that one now. I didn't realize you were serious Bezhukov, or that you didn't have time. I had been hoping that you would start off the game for us again and get us a couple of settlers from huts again. If you don't have the time though, you can sit out for awhile and then rejoin when you do have time. I don't mind. We'll need you in a month when we lose romeo and ThERat for awhile.

I agree - camel on a flood plain is an awesome tile. Bonus food and bonus shields. You want that used by the first city.

You can quickly pump some military and not hurt the growth toward a settler.
