Best Civilization

Depends on playstyle, my personal favourite is Austria, but I don't know how many agree with me.

Depends on what victory condition you tend to play for. For some people who like to keep things random, you won't always know how you'll win the game, so it's hard to say exactly. If you had to break it down by strengths, I'd say:

For science, Babylon or Korea. Neither are particularly good at domination, but having a solid tech lead helps in conquest.

For domination, Mongolia, the Huns or Persia. Mongolia and the Huns are all about their UU. The Huns are stronger earlier and taper off, while Mongolia can use its UU for a surprisingly long time. Persia's strength is getting Chichen Itza to combine with their UA and having 20(?) turn Golden Ages. During Golden Ages, Persian units get +1 movement and +10% strength, which lets you move over hills and rivers and attack on the same turn. There is also a group of World Wonders late in the game that can give you 4 Golden Ages, plus the ability to buy Great Artists with faith, so you can stay in a Golden Age indefinitely.

For culture, Persia is a good choice. I think culture is heavily dependent on what difficulty you are playing at. At Prince or lower, I doubt you need Egypt's UA to help you build wonders, whereas at higher difficulties that 20% bonus might be the difference. France is good for its +2 culture per city bonus, since it helps you kickstart your empire faster. India might have been a good choice originally since you need to go Tall in order to get a culture victory anyway, but in G&K I don't think you'll have much trouble with happiness using a 4-5 city/wonder heavy strategy.

Other civs can be strong depending on the circumstances (Spain starting near a good natural wonder, like Uluru or Mt. Sinai).

The consensus top tier consists of Korea, Babylon, Arabia, and sometimes China. All of these civs have some combination of strong science, powerful UUs and solid economies that allows them to be dominant.

These posts always go poorly, and just result in people raving about their personal favorites then arguing when others don't agree. If you said more about your style of play (what kind of things you focus on, what victory condition you end up getting most of the time etc.) then you maight find the results more fruitful.

America! LOL Just kidding. Mine I would have to say England, I run a huge naval empire with them.

I like science. But i like be very strong at economics, But at times, i would often gather a huge military to go to war, but only to cripple, not to destroy them. Social is okay and religion is -_-

There are many answers to your question and they all depend on what victory you aim at. But if you want a name, I would say Persia. Its unique ability is great combined with Chichen Itza and some social policies!

Science: Babylon, Korea
Domination: Mongols, Huns, Ottomans, Rome, Russia
Culture: Persia, Greece

For immortal and higher Pangaea games: Babylon, Korea are top tier just because of how powerful science is. Arabia and Maya are really the only civs that can city spam on high difficulties successfully. I've heard strategies about Egypt and Ethiopia, but is doesn't seem optimal. Ethiopia is really good for cultural or domination victories though. Austria got hit with the nerf stick really hard, but is still one of the best in the game. China/Mongolia/England have some of the best unique units in the game, just because of how powerful ranged units are. In short:

1: Babylon, Korea, Maya, Arabia, Austria.
2: China, Mongolia, England, Ethiopia.

I'm sure plenty of people will disagree with me, so feel free to tear that apart.

I really like Ethiopia, its a very versatile civ with an UA & UB favoring all kind of strategies.

Spain can be either very strong or somewhat lackluster imo.

I have found Hawaii (Polynesia) to be surprisingly strong over 100s of hours of actual game play. The most important reason to play as Kamehameha is it is fun. If your goal is to win in the absolute fewest turns, military is the quickest victory path. I don't know which Civ can win quickest militarily but to do so you have to start changing the map to always be one big continent. If you wish to play sub-optimally on random maps and just try stuff out, Civ V is a great game for that.

My friend and I both like Arabia as well, though China may be the best all around Civ, they neutered it at some point reducing the great general bonus. Any Civ that gets neutered in an update was probably a little too good. Hawaii might be a bit map dependent, but like I said they are fun.

I like Babylon over Korea and the Mayans may be one of those Civs that was too strong initially. You can do great things with a surpassing number of Civs. My second highest score ever was with Hawaii. I can't remember who my highest score was with, it happened long ago and the game keeps changing.

Just try them all and form your own opinion. :king:

Okay, i find that i like the Ehtiopia and China best. China's OP with
Chukoonu: They can fire twice in a turn. i used 3 of them to destory anyone in my path
Paper Maker: I find this one interesting as i can make money fast
UA: I like how fast i can get to great generals spawn faster and they get even more bonus. I was able to steam roll and even take over ethiopia from several fronts.

Ethiopia
I like their UA, UU, and UB
Stele:I like how i can easliy gain culture and faith. I had long establishd religion by turn 45 and the second didnt come along to turn 75. I was prettly much the dominant religious user by turn 100
Mahel Sefari: Havent tried it
UA: I went really, really tall with just one city. I had like 30 citizins(4 million) and a very high production rate. I went to war with the runaway Huns, I destroyed them and made them a shell beause i kept razing cities and took Attila's court and sold all of the buildings before giving it to England

Final conclusion: I like china for now.

It really depends on the player. What kind of victory do you hope to achieve? Do you want peace or war?

For new players I recommend:

Babylon - for learning the mechanics while keeping up with science. Science is very important but it is easy to fall behind

Egypt - for cranking out world wonders. Only thing is, if you crank out too many it's hard to notice the difference in how effective one is from the other so you're not really learning the heavy details.

Maya - they are great on any level. Introduces you to great people in more detail. And to the religion game. Gives you a UU to help you from the very beginning. Very good for a beginner but they are a kind of civ that as you get better and better, their possibilities expand and become more complex

Greece - Great for learning the diplomacy side

Rome - great for if you want to learn the war side. Really take advantage of them to experiment with taking down cities

Polynesia - strictly archipelago maps, but perfect for them. Probably want to try one of the others first though as they can be nitpicky

With any of these you are free to expand as much as you want but Ethiopia is probably the best if you prefer to play with a smaller empire

My guess is that my answer differs from others. It's really up to you at the end. Best way is to just pick a civ and jump right in. If you only have the base game then you won't have a lot the civs I mentioned. Doesn't matter, just jump right in and it will be fun

Austria and Sweden because their advantages are difficult to wrap your head around, Denmark and India because they're just bad. Spain is so derpy that it'll just teach you to rely too much on the map.

top 3 for me is:

Arabia

strong UU, good both defendsily and agresivly.
Very good UB, for trade
UA makes Money, many Money. plus a nice bonus to oil.

Inca
Week UU, but can be good for scouting/early defense
UI very good for growing your cities
UA makes Money, plus makes your units go faster over Hills. Very strong UA.

Denmark
just like them. so fun to play with on an Island heavy map. + its my country :goodjob:
