i would like opinions from some of the more experienced players which city would make the best GP farm of these five. in no particular order:

thanks. i have more screen shots of this game, if for some reason it would help to form an opinion, right here.

madrid- many wonders already, concentrated food for fast start and some minor food+ lots of grassland for late-game.
I guess barcelona would be better in the long run, but you'll need to do something to fight that huge unhealthiness. And aynway barcelona will be better as cottage city.
EDIT and erm, barcelona has 18 riverside tiles...
it will be a production powerhouse too after steam. OU+IW seem to be better choice for it than NE+NP

It is obvious that madrid is by far the best even before factoring in the wonders...

Now that I look at it, I agree. Also, I'm not really sure how #5 there could be considered, it's not exactly rolling in food. The others are just so much better for commerce...

How is Madrid better than Athens when you don't factor the wonders? I mean, Athens has irrigated tiles plus two food rich resources...

Athens have developed cottages and is already capital... He needs to fix happiness too and some other issues in his play, but that is not really related to which city is best as GP farm...

Madrid is small and is pushed by culture although it does have a fair amount of wonders; if you can take all the unclaimed tiles around Barcelona when it comes out of revolt, I vote for that one. Agree with Budweiser on this one. Did I ever disagree with a beer?!?

An important factor for picking a GP farm is how many cottages you have to give up.

Madrid only has 8 floodplain/grassland tiles, so it has the lowest opportunity cost to turn into a GP farm.

Madrid doesn't have the best post-biology food production, but the early game is the most important time to get GPs.

i count 8 specialists in madrid, 7 specialists in cordoba. then maybe later a switch to barcelona, it has something like a 13 count, once the national park is available.

i also count 8.5 specialists in athens, though what oyzar says about the cottages is dead-on.

something makes me lean toward cordoba, though; because madrid seems to have some potential for production, while, without workshops, cordoba doesn't. cordoba seems like it would be killer under state property/caste system later in the game.

but then i see your point about the 7 GPP from wonders in madrid, fuzzy math making it like a 10.3 specialist count.

thanks for replies.

Ah, that makes sense.

I'd pick Madrid but its services are needed as Wall Street, and possibly Hermitage also to push the culture out better. NE would flood you with Prophet points and the shrine is already there, which can be inconvenient when you're gunning for an engineer for Mining or merchant for Sushi.

I pick Athens, painful as it is to irrigate over cottages.
