i've only played 1 shooter game and it was a game cube game... james bond IIRC.
i guess that was fun but i mostly hate shooter games

HL2 apparently has won over many game reviewing corporations so it's my pick.

HL2 was good, but honestly, the end is crappy, the scenario is inexistant, there is this abomination of Steam necessary to play it, and it's too linear.
Doom 3 was FAAAAR more immersing, and Far Cry had less linearity and a better handling of vehicles.

I would say that Doom 3 is the best solo-FPS of the year.

Well, it's hardly new, but it's got a graphic/physic engine that is totally on par with both Doom III and HL2 (I would even say that I find it even more impressive, considering the HUGE maps it's able to render, and it's not needing that much power to do so), and has a much, much greater freedom than both of them.

But well, the ambiance of Doom III is just staggering ^^
