I just bought Alien Crossfire bt have not had the time to play it yet. When reading the manual it looks like the new factions is a lot more powerful compared to the old ones. More advantages and less (or less important) disadvantages.

For all of you veteran Alien Crossfire players out there - do you think the new factions are better?

As played by AI, the two alien factions are very strong, equal to or exceeding the top rank of the original seven.

All seven factions are very strong when played by a human against AI, because of their exaggerated strenths and weaknesses, when humans can take much more advantage of than the AI (similar to Morganites in smac, at the bottem as AI, but among the strongest when player controlled)

I think the game is most interesting when you play with a new faction and include its old counterpart in the game.
E.g.: You play as the Cyborgs and include the University to make the game more challenging and have another tech-oriented faction to prevent you from becoming the absolute technology leader.
I also think that the alien factions are too strong to be played at low difficulty levels. It's much more funny to have them as adversaries!

Also at least the cyborgs and the pirates are bit unbalanced factions...
Aliens are fun, when you don't play with them or start next to them...

Well lets see..
The pirates basically CANT lose since the AI lacks the ability to conduct naval warfare. There's also a bug with marine detachement which makes pirates invinceable. The alien factions are fun to play, but a bit too buff when played by a veteran player. My favourite is Aki-Zeta - you can play a tech game without significant hits to moral etc. To be honest i seldom play the SMAX factions tho since i think the original ones possess more "feel" to them.

I agree, the original factions feels like more realistic. The best faction concepts was already taken by the originals. Perhaps the factions should have been made by splitting up some of the old ones in two. Like the Believers in one peaceful religious faction and one religious fanatic.

I also thimk the Data Angels should have been an anarchist faction primary, with the "data" thing as something less important. A computer faction doesn't fit in among a bunch of political factions.

Well, the Angels do have some anarchistic tendencies. That's why they have such a low Police rating. Besides, you can always jack with their stats to make them more anarchistic.
