Hi,
1. Selection box to select all awake/active units (left click)
The user holds down the left mouse button and then drags the mouse so that a selection box starts growing and moves with the mouse. (Like drawing a rectangle with ms paint.
All awake/active units that are in the cities and on the roads that fall within the selection box get selected, except possibily workers or scouts depending on preferences. Default workers and scouts should not be selected only combat units should be selected.
After the selection has taken place it should be visible to the user what units where selected for example by using little "selection brackets on left and right side of unit: [x]"
After the selection has taken place the user can issue commands to the selected units as whole.
For example: fortify them, or goto a single location (to group them together for a stack for example
or disband them or upgrade them or whatever
)
2. Emergency selection box to select all units (right click)
Same as point 1 but now the right mouse button should be used.
All combat units even the fortified will be selected.
This allows one to quickly move and group all units at the point of emergency for example a city is attacked.
After the emergency selection box has been made the user gets pop up windowed asking him how many units he would like to leave behind in each city as minimum for example 2.
In preferences the user should be able to disable this pop-up and simply enter the default number of units that should remain in the cities.
3. Wake all units of a specific type.
I want to be able to wake all medieval infantaries for attack but not the spear or pikemen those last ones should remain fortified for fortifaction bonus
At the bottum of the right click pop up menu there should be extra options:
For example:
Wake all spearmen
Wake all swordsmen
Wake all archers.
Depending on what is in the stack
4. Key assignment. (binding units or stacks to keys 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0)
It would be handy to assign specific units or even whole stack to keys
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0 on the keyboard by holding down the control key and pressing the key number. The user can then simply scroll to an enemy city
press key 1 and order stack 1 which was assigned to key 1 to move to the enemy city by clicking next to it. (the screen should not zoom into the stack 1 when key 1 is pressed it should only be selected ready to take orders )
(again like "command & conquer" )
5. Select all wounded units
When clicking right on a stack a pop-up menu appears, the pop-up menu
should contain a entry where it says: "select all wounded units".
The user can then simply retreat his wounded units to retreat, heal and fight another day
6. Select all healthy units
The right click pop-up menu for a stack should contain a "select all healthy units" entry so that the user can select all health units that have just survived an attack from an enemy stack. Now the user can counter-attack with all his health units first against the wounded enemy stack and whipe it out with ease if case units remain user can use his remaining wounded units (see 5) to finish them off
7. Improve stack pop-up menu.
When there are many units in the stack the user has to first scroll way down before he can reach the special commands like fortify or wake all etc.
All these important commands should always be visible and reachable to the user no many how many units are in the stack.
Well I think these are all fine ideas so they (the makers of civ 3 or civ 4?
) have their work cut out for them =D
( Fortunately I was able to "save" this text from destruction. Right after I pressed the post button I thought I better copy all this text quickly because one never knows with these forums. Windows trick: control-a = select all, control-c = copy all. And sure enough right after I pressed the post button and right after I copy the text to the clipboard the posting failed. It went to some gamespy commercial ad.
I wrote a strategy guide once for ufo2000 and the same thing happened there and the text was lost.
This time I won over the fricking forums
You dirty forum you suck !

Bye,
Skybuck !!!!!!! =D
