This is the last resort before returning the game. It ran perfectly fine for a week or so then suddenly the mouse cursor flashing the way it does in a boxy way. If I were prone to seizures it would induce them. Not a single person can solve this problem. I have reinstalled windows, drivers both new and old, sound and video, format and reinstall, reinstall game 4 times, adjusted settings for video card every possible way. Only one other person has had this same problem and he is as stumped as I am (see my earlier post for more details.)
Adjusting BIOS settings can have negative effects on everything else. If you're comfortable with changing BIOS settings, I'd look up info on your motherboard manufacturer's website for optimum settings for your mobo/video combo. Sorry to hear about your problems, I just formatted my computer on fri/sat. Unless the return window is almost up, I'd wait for the patch to see if it'll help with your issue. Could you post your specs?
GeForce FX 5200
2.0 Ghz AMD Athlon XP
1.0 GB DDR RAM
I probably will, it just drives me nuts that the problem appeared out of thin air with nothing REALLY preceding it. Sure, it was choppy but I didn't care.
Hrm, did you notice any screen flickering also? Just wondering because with my old video card, Gainward GF FX5200, it'd flicker a few seconds right before a CTD, during gameplay. That seems to have "disappear" after I upgraded my video card, but I havent played long enough to confirm. It could happen any moment now.
Anyhow, I know you arent getting any CTDs, I hope, but the flickering suggested that there was a video problem(s) with the game. This could possibly be fixed with a patch.
On a side note, there's a thread somewhere here talking about adjusting some memory settings in the BIOS. That's the closest thing I can think of that you might find interesting.
There's a decent guide here The Definitive Bios Guide where you can read up on the functions and settings.
Be VERY deliberate if you decide to make changes.
