I installed Civ 4 on my comp (ATI RADEON 9800 pro) and it runs fine, but brother however would like to play the game as well and he runs a Dell P3.0GHZ, 1Gig ram, and a built in Intel Extreme Graphics card 82865G (
(6.14.10.3762).

I never expected the game to run, but it does, and twice as fast as mine too. Everything in the game loads (Units, Resources, Menu's) except for the Terrain which is completely black. I saw a couple threads that raised this question, but the fixes were only for ATI and Nvidia cards.

Anyone know how to fix this problem? I would really like to get my little brother into this game as I was introduced to the original Civilization at his age.

I have the same problem. I have the latest updates for the graphics card and all of the graphics work except the actual map. I can even zoom out and after a certain point the world will display correctly.

Technically, the Intel 82865g is not supported so I'm not sure we're going to get much help.

However, as mentioned, the black screen does appear to be an issue with other video cards as well, so maybe it can be fixed..

I have the same graphics card. Unfortunately, we are out of luck; that intel graphics card is simply not supported.

well, we aren't totally out of luck. Someone posted somewhere a way to basically mod every technology so that every technology reveals the whole map. When the whole map is revealed (basically, what satellites does), then the black terrain problem is fixed, though fog of war does not work.

This has allowed me to play games fine, even though I get a slight advantage in the beginning of the game.
