black to light to crash

I started with no picture,but went to civ 4 updates and loaded patch.I returned to start of game and game was fine.I played for about 6 hrs and system crashed with quick note about the driver no longer working.I started game again,only on tiny map as opposed to the standard map I used the first time.Crashed again so I unistalled and tried to reinstall,but it quits 2 clicks form end and says:
data 3 error,data error (cyclic redundacy check)
I have tried to delete everything with civ4 on it and tried to reinstall,no go.
My computer is an hp764n ,(intel pentium 4,2.66ghz),512mbsdram,120gbhard drive,128nvidia geforce4,mx440graphic cardw/tv-out
I am not real computer smart,but I just like play all the civ games.I hope someone can help me.

Did the message say which device driver stopped working? Someone else had a similar problem with their video driver. You could try reinstall your video card driver.
