There is well over a million PS3's sold. HD-DVD on the other hand has not even sold 200,000 players. PS3 is a major factor as far as format goes.

Again. People don't buy game consoles because they can watch movies on them. They buy them to play games on them. Sony sees the writing on the wall. You don't suddenly go from yelling your winning at the top of your lungs to saying your in a stalemate without good reason. And also Blockbuster is offering HD-DVD in 250 of it's stores.

Your link does little to aid your case. According to the article 50% of PS3 owners know about it's HD capabilities. That is still well over double the amount of HD-DVD players that have been sold. Actually.. my early estimate was hugely off.

There are currently 5.59 million PS3's sold.
5.59 million * .5 = 2.79 million know about it's HD capabilities.

Now this article that you posted earlier says the following:

This dramatically increases the user base for the HD DVD camp, but that's not saying much since the format only sold about this many stand-alone players in its first year

So taking this information we can assume that there has been 180,000 HD-DVD players sold. That is not even comparable to 2.79 million. Even if one tenth of those 2.79 million actually watched movies on their PS3 it would still be almost double the amount of HD-DVD players sold. That is, of course, not counting the stand alone blu-ray players that have been sold either.

And also Blockbuster is offering HD-DVD in 250 of it's stores.

But offer Blu-Ray exclusively in 1,400 other stores. Meanwhile the 250 stores it is offered in were the original test stores in which they decided to go exclusively blu-ray because it sold more.

I trust wiki about as far as I can throw their servers. :p According to sony they have only sold 4.88 million, so slightly less at 2.44 million. that 90,000 was sold in one weekend. Thats pretty good. Right now Bluray is outselling but I wouldn't be surprised if HD-Dvd starts increasing it sales number. Again it is the side with the lowest prices that will win. Right now the general public has refused to get involved because the prices are high, so it's been left to the videophiles and since blu ray has the better stats they have been gobbling it up.

I belive it was 1700 but I was simply pointing out Blu ray is not in store exclusive. Besides I'm always suspicious of these exclusive deals both sides are making. I'm betting there is some behind the scense dealing going on.
