I was astonished when i was making 1300 per turn as venice this afternoon. great civ though i think its going to be one of my favorites.

Mine actually started truly isolated (other than 1 city state on my landmass that got bought out right after I got Compass.) So there was no money until Astronomy. I've made up for that since.
And that's with only 5 of the (current max of 8) routes devoted to external. (2 internal routes are pumping massive food shipments into Venice so it can support guilds; and the other is sending hammers to a fairly recent purchase (and supporting my religion)
