I don't know whether anyone has discovered this yet, but for those who don't know this, read on:

Once you discover Steam Power (and have iron/coal), obviously you're gonna start building RRs like crazy. Now, we all know RRing forest tiles does nothing, so they usually get saved until last (at least for me). Not anymore. If you chop down the forest (regardless of whether or not a resource is found there, it will remain), you get 10 bonus shields :), and now instead of being 1/2/1, it is 2/0/1 (on grassland). Now, mine AND RR that tile, and now you get a 2/2/1, with the one-time 10 shield bonus! With game, it becomes a 4/3/1! Nice, eh?

That's very nice. Does it work for forest in the tundra landscape though? Does cutting down too much forest advance global warming? Must try it though.

Good idea.

I wonder if there is any way to check on the effect of Global Warming while chopping down forests.

Every civ should, however, maintain a MINIMUM number of forest tiles - ir esle run out of paper products and lumber for construction!

If we're feeling green, then we can still cut down forests around the city's vicinity put plant more forests further out. That way, we'd still have lumber and paper. Also, it's good to have some forests surrounding the city just to slow down enemy troop movements.

I am going to change it so you can mine forests. Basically it is taking down and then replanting them for extra shields. That way a RR would help. Of course there is still less food.
