For now feel free to post your results... I'll try to put this in standard format later. Just remember to tell us about your game up to 1AD, and don't read through the thread until you have reached that point in your game.

The inital postion of the settler is 1S of the 3f1c wet corn. For such a great tile it would be a waste if no city other than the capital can use it. Moving west is certainly less desriable compared to moving east since water tiles require extra workboat investment. I moved 1E and saw the stone. So I settled on the stone. Soon my recon warroir gave me a strange report: the BFCs of AI capital cities were filled with deserts? So AIs started with virtually 1 city only. Given that this is an immortal+ level game. I built 5 cities and left 2 fish tiles unreachable. In BC725 I dow'd Cyrus. After 16 turns I got 8 cities and COL+calendar+literature from him. Poor Cyrus had only 1 city left. The starting dreamland allowed me to build 31 horsearchers+4 chariots for this war. Meanwhile, Ragnar and Alex dow'd on Ramesses. I agreed to join this war when Alex asked but I didn't send any troops. Alex was the strongest among the remaining AIs. He was my next target. Since horsearchers are usually considered not strong enough vs an agg AI who is busy building his army, I decided to wait for elepult and missed the chance to finish this game with horsearchers.

I SIP and it turns out that the capital has too much food (if that's even possible). I think MirrorGuard was on to something when he moved!

I decided for a peaceful start. We were surrounded by a dessert and it felt like expanding peacefully or via conquest would have resulted in a lot of far-away cities that might be hard to afford in the early game. So I buckled down and decided to wait for a bit later to break out and to let the AI develop the land for me. It turns out that the time I picked is right around 1 AD. It was probably a mistake to turtle but I did it anyway.

At 1 AD, I have 6 cities, 41 pops, 212b @ -42gpt, 154b sustainable at 70%. I have 317 gold in the bank. I've learned C.S, Machinery, Currency, Construction, Calendar and Engineering (in 2 turns). I built the Mids and have an Academy in the capital. I have 1 GS and will get another great person next turn (70% GS, 30% GE).

I just turned the crank on army production so I only have 8 maces and 3 cats. I will add some trebs into the mix as well. My target is Darius who is the tech leader of all AI by far. He built the Buddhist shrine and the GLH a few turns ago so the timing is good. Everyone is Buddhist other than Alex (40% influence) so I'm sure that shrine is a gold mine!

6 cities, 51 population. 2 turns away from Civil Service (& Bureaucracy). I built the mids which is nice and I was first to music for a GA. No real military yet though.

Capital produced a GE, which I was considering using to rush the Sistine Chapel in that border city, but maybe will use to rush the taj mahal instead (I dont think the bit of extra culture from the chapel is really worth the opportunity cost). Capital will likely produce a GS which I *think* i can use to bulb philosophy.

Trading with Lincoln has been quite helpful to get calendar resources for the happy cap. Ramses and Ragnar have been fighting, as have Darius and Alexander on occasion.

I've also avoided religion - I'm mostly hindu but the only other hindu is Darius who I am planning to attack. perhaps that was unwise as well as I probably could have benefited from organized religion.

I'm not sure what my strategy will be from here. I find diety quite hard and whenever I start a war I usually die due to surprisingly far more units than expected. That said, I still might try massing elephants now, teching up to liberalism/Military Tradition (if I can get there first), using the GA to go into pacifism and produce a few great merchants to get money, upgrade to cuirassiers and attack persia.

Another more out of the box (and perhaps more fun) strategy would be to beeline Astronomy, and then go try to mass settle the new world. With a forbidden palace somewhere maybe maintenance wouldn't be that bad.

I'm reasonably happy with my current position, but not really sure what works on diety or what I should aim for next. Might have to pause and think for a while.
