Bought How to know not pirated

So i bought the "complete" import from uk through amazon. It has no manual and i cant find any cd key or anything distinguishing. I did just play a game online and no cd key/serial was needed. How would i know if the game is just a pirate copy?

CIv 4 Complete has the manual on the disc rather than a paper manual and there is no CD key/serial no. The game relied on the DRM which required the disc in the drive to play. The DRM was removed with Beyond the Sword patch 3.19 but the version of Complete that includes Colonization has the DRM removed for all the games. I don't know how you would spot a pirate disc version but no manual or CD key does not mean pirate.

You can't copy the discs with the DRM. I would have thought the pirates would remove it. If you bought it from Amazon I would expect it to be real.

Y can't DRM be copied? Just write the copy disc verbatim exactly the way its readable. Only if the disk drive cant WRITE DRM would there be a problem.

That's one of the points of the DRM, to stop the disc being copied. You'll have to look up SafeDisc and SecurRom, both of which Civ 4 has used for DRM in the past to find out more information about them.
