Boycott Civ 4

The movie that plays each time you start a new level (the one about evolution) is a pretty big slap in the face to all religion's due to its ~this is how it Really happened~ type of deliverance.

Other than that i thought the religions were implemented quite nicely, but what they are lacking is a scienetology type religion, considering that a religion is just a system of shared beliefs... they need a system where disbeliefs can spread, i always hate it when the entire world is buddhist or hindu.. meanwhile im in the dead center with judism and about to get pummeled by all of them.

Ii don't think the evolution concept has to be anti-religious but for those outside of religion it's used as a device to accomplish just that, so just for that fact alone it does chill me somewhat.

As for scientology, if you were going to limit the number of relgions, wouldn't you say it's lifeapan and spread has been far more limited than any of the in-game ones? I think the Mormons still surpass them for example.

One thing I love about Civ is the fact that a lot of the quotes contradict other quotes, and the evolution movie contradicts other stuff stated within the game. In other words, Civ is balanced. A part of it might be offensive to someone, but another part would be redeeming to that same someone. I'm Christian, and not only that, I believe the bible is best taken literally. Yet, I love Civilization IV. That guy's just a nutball.

Your right there, but what i was trying to get across is i want it possible in game for disbelief to spread and eliminate religions from regions... kinda like in 'black & white' how there belief starts dropping if you stop doing miracles. Im not sure how you would go about doing it in civ though.

@Sohan: :agree:

:wallbash: Ugh! How embarassing. I was actually impressed by the unbiased religion descriptions.

Free Republic, aka The Freep, is a conservative/libertarian website. It's full of various right-wing nuts who's favorite author is Ann Coulter. But from reading the comments, the nutjob denouncing Civ4 is a bit too extreme for most of the Freepers.

There are elements in my mind that resemble thinking that is opposed to the general Christian worldview, such as the liberalism tech being some great boon in the game. Science closing monastaries is a load of rubbish too (as universities had their start through the monks, and indeed monastaries still exist today).

Oh, so Liberalism hasn't changed the world for the better?

You have to understand that for Freepers, liberalism = socialism. Some of these guys believe that Hitler was a socialist. (I mean that literally.)

He seemed mostly upset about what the civilopedia said about Christianity. But as other people on his board pointed out, the things stated about Christianity were accurate, though a little vague. It is in fact true that more bloodshed has come from and within Christianity than other religions.
Actually the Roman empire was extremely bloody before it adopted Christianity so it wasn't Church as much as it was the Roman Empire. Thus Jesus Christ was crucifed under the Roman rule. Either you join them or you die. Many christians in the early church died because they refuse to join the Roman church/religion.

Speaking of religion... and boycotts... I bought two copies of CIV IV. Why? I don't know. I bought one deluxe edition, and the other regular edition. I haven't even opened the regular edition copy I have. I wonder what I should do with it? I enjoy looking at the unopened box every now and then. And htinking of all the starving people in the upper east side.

They've obviously never heard of the original Liberals, who were for a completely free market and letting people do whatever they wanted with their own bodies.

That is what I am wondering. Plus that site is clearly innacurate and from a conservative (and possibly Protestant/Evangical Christian influence) nutjobish site.

I can already refute it's clame on this quote:

"When the Roman Empire fell, Christianity broke into two branches. Since then it has continued to fragment, with a number of branches quite hostile to others."
Clearly that is innacurate since the Great Schism (That separated the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church) happened in 1054, about a thousand years after the Roman Empire fell.

about 500 years actually

Technically, hitler WAS a Socialist. The Nazis were the National Socialist Party, by defintion. Practically, Nazis weren't Socialists but they at least said they were.

Wow... its a joke right? I mean... common! PLUS he's an american republican... Its like he's a parody of himself.

... Only in america.

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is STUPID! Realy stupid. ITS A STRATEGY GAME, NOT AN ANTI-CHRIST TRAINING DEVICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whew, glad I got that off my plate. Whoever wrote the article is an idiot. A foo' (fool for those who arent up to date). Or any other name you would like. Its rediculous. and dont say conservative cause it has nothing to do with politics. the same people who boycot harry potter and bionicle because harry potter is a wizard and bionicle has a litle green lego man that flies and has levitation (Lego didnt give credit to God for the little green mans flying abylities, so it must come from demons.) I am a christian (and conseravative) but I dont boycot Lego, Civ, and Harry Potter. That is simply the actions of a foolish fool, who are also known as foolish fools (i love that)

Yep, this is the type of people that made Firaxis have to keep all religions the same and not give them a 'fun' variation depending on which one is your state religion. This is a prime example why all religions are 'the same' in the game. This pr*ck and people like him ruin it for everyone. Too bad they think 'fun' itself is a sin. :(

Someone send him an email real fast to tell him to set "Allow Flying cammera=0" to "=1". That way he can see he is casting stones.

okay. the game is fine. it's fun, just fun. if you fell different, stop playing it and let us enjoy it! i don't think this forum is meant for real life relegious debate. your choice of relegion or non-relegion is your choice. i will not condem you for your beliefs, don't condem me for mine.

okay, i better stop while i'm ahead. before i start 'preaching'.

to all: enjoy the game!
