I have briefly skimmed the book and I read that there are new units, wonders, civics, etc. in the scenarios. Can these files be moved from the scenario so that you can use them in regular Warlords games? Thanks.

In the not so brief 8)...

I've been having a little private discussion with some other modders here in the community, and from what I've seen, we could pull into vanilla civ4:

The Great Generals
The new leadership traits
The new civs
The new units
The new buildings
The tech tweaks

If there are new civics (I didn't notice any) those are most likely portable as well.

What we can't do without what I will categorize as "a lot of work" (read as "more work then anyone* is willing to do for free") is the vassalage system. Also, I suspect, without looking, that porting the scenarios themselves is probably a significant amount of work.

Now, even porting all those things, civ4 vanilla won't be warlords, because Warlords adds new modding opportunities and features which are not available in civ4, and at least some of which can not be back ported (again without "a lot of work"). These quotes are from me, not a third party, and so I am solely to blame for poor estimates 8). As my friend Hugh Moore used to quote himself as saying, "Only a real jerk would quote himself... --Hugh Moore". It worked better when he did it 8). And yes, that is his real name. His parents are wack.

This is another post quoting the "new modding" abilities with Warlords. I'm sorry, did I miss something? Is there new python api, new entity interfaces? I've scoured the Warlords info on this site and haven't found anything, so if someone could please direct me to these?

BTW, I'm not trying to sound cynical, I actually just don't know and think that perhaps I missed something.

I haven't looked deeply into this myself, but, for instance, it has been reported that the internal constants preventing increasing the number of players in a game have been removed. I suspect there are other tweaks like this, as well as new SDK core facilities made available for modders which integrate with bits in the .exe and therein can not be back ported.

As to what specific features these bits add, I can not say with any clarity at this point in time. I never looked into how Lacutius derived the Python API, so I don't have a handy routine to scan it myself, and I don't have an SDK project setup where I am now, so I haven't looked closely at the new C++ files.

Thanks for the responses, but I think my question might have been too broad for what I'm looking for. I'm at school studying for finals right now so I don't have the book in front of me, but I believe there is an "Art of War" in the Chinese scenario.

What I was wondering is this: Can this "Art of War" be removed or copied from the scenario and placed in a regular file for Warlords? I play Warlords and use Custom Game. I don't play the scenarios but I would like to explore and construct the additions only in the scenarios. Again, thanks in advance.

Ok, I hope someone can help me with this. After experimenting a bit with copying the XML over, I managed to get it out of the scenario and into a regular Warlords game as I wanted. Everything works fine except for the following one thing:

When I start a new game, the Sun Tzu Art of War is an option to build right off the bat, even though it requires Philosophy.

Does anyone know what I'm missing? I want it to only be available when Philosphy is researched.

Thanks again!

These Wonders might be implemented by Python Scripts that are local to the Senario, check to see if the Wonder actualy dose anything in XML first.
