Hypothetical situation: I have to irigate thru town A to get water to town B. If I later mine the connecting tile that brought water to town B, will town B lose it's irigation? I have a feeling that although town B's tiles would 'look' irigated, the citizen would only be getting 1 food.

Do you mean something like:

A = Town A
B = Town B
- = Irrigation
+ = Mine

First:

A - - B

Then:

A + - B

the irrigation on the second tile would remain.

If you mean:

A - B

then:

A + B

I'm pretty sure you would lose the water. If you ever change what is built on the tile, the tile loses the bonuses. So if you change a bonus grassland tile with no road from a mine to irrigation it will give you 3 food and 1 shield instead of 2 food and 2 shields.

Does this answer your question?

No, you do not lose the irrigation.

No, you do not lose the irrigation.

I'll add the following.

Say you have this pattern:

-A-+B with - as irrigation, and + as a mine, and A and B as cities. So, you then mine and have:

+A-+B. Well, you can still irrigate the other plus and produce:

+A--B. In fact, you can also have this once you have the ability to irrigated at the third square:

+A+-B. To go even further... I feel pretty confident you can do the following. Say you have

+A-+B. You can irrigate with a single worker the mine between A and B. Then mine/forest the irrigation with a stack of workers such that the mine gets completed in a single turn. The other worker will complete the irrigation later, even though it doesn't have water available anymore (provided that you haven't changed that workers job).

Good points Spoonwood. I'm honored that you used my system to show them. :)
