I was playing Civ 4 this morning and it ran perfectly fine, but when I tried playing it this afternoon I got a BSOD about "MACHINE_EXCEPTION_SOMETHING" or something like that. After restarting my computer, I uninstalled it and tried to reintall it, but got the same error.

Any advice?

post a dxdiag file and the entire bsod error script please.

A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

MACHINE_CHECK_EXTENSION

If this is the first time you've seen this error screen...

I'm cutting this bit out, since it has nothing important. Just some generic Windows advice.

...then select safe mode.

Technical information: 0x0000009C (0x000000004, 0x60545FF0, 0xB2000000, 0x00070F0F)

Edit: Fixed a small typo.

Bad hardware more than likely the main culprit ram

try testing the ram with this

http://www.memtest86.com/

also: when testing the ram or running civ four, shut all the stuff going on in the background. Your page file is way high.

Start/run

Type in:

msconfig

Disable all on startup tab.

Under services tab check the box for hide all MS services, disable the rest, apply, and reboot.

Did all what you said, and Civ 4 would start to install and a few files would be loaded onto the computer, but then I got the BSOD again.

Also, I tried checking the Ram, but at 3300% coverage, still no errors.

For all the issues the game has I kindly ask you not to pollute this technical forum by posting non-relevant and non-substantial postings.

Or how would you like it if you had an issue and people are trying to help and you have to wade through x postings with zero meaningful content?

If you're dissatisfied take it up with 2K and Firaxis, don't annoy your fellow board members with it, thanks.

and you disabled all NON-MS services. all of them?

I did. MSN Messenger is listed now because I've turned it on though.

Ack.:(

If you have 2 sticks of memory, take one out.

Try playing again. If that doesnt work, replace the one left with the one you took out. If that doesn work, take the graphics card out, clean the contact points and put it pack in. Make sure the power connection is on tight and that the powerline only plugs into the card and no other device.

While you are in there, inspect the motherboard capicitors and make sure that none of them are burnt or ooozing.

One rather off the wall question for you.

Do you have Asus wireless?

Do you have Asus wireless?

Never heard of it. I'm gonna print your instructions and check it out.

Thanks a lot by the way, I really appreciate having somebody better than me with computers help me out, you've just been very fast and informative. I'm actually gonna do IT later in life, so I better pick up and learn from you. :P

Yes if you like being frustrated a lot its a great field;) ;) ;)

Interesting... I took the RAM out and it seemed to work fine, and when I put it back in it still worked. I changed slots though, that may have been an issue. Only problem is now I have to sort out that stupid renderer error- All of a sudden it's popping up when I try to run the game. There must be a sticky around here for that, so I'll sort it out. Thanks a lot for your help!

(Frustration is trying to figure out WTH is wrong with the For loop in Pascal. :P)

Woot!:D

The ram was good but was probably not seated all the way or the ram needed to be installed in a specific order for the ram slots on the motherboard.

Anyways nice going:goodjob:

The render error you get is stickied up top. If you have any trouble, just ask and someone here will help.

Good luck and good gamming:D
