So, I bought Civ 4 the day it came out and like many people here have not been able to play it longer than 1 hour. Usually, it crashes after 5-10 minutes (at most). I feel like I have done my due diligence by surfing this forum and the other major Civ 4 forum (i don't know if it is taboo to mention the name) for the past month or so, trying many many many many of the fixes that people have generously posted... to no avail. Soooooo, i am hoping that I can get some help/suggestions/recommendations from anybody:

With the first 2 versions (out of the box and 1.09), my computer would suddenly lock up. The screen would turn off for less than a second then come right back on, but it would be black with no cursor and no sound. Less frequently, my computer would just reboot.
With 1.52, my computer now goes to BSOD. There's no error, the screen just turns blue and there is no sound or cursor. Sometimes, it still just reboots on its own.
I have Asus PC Probe on my computer and it doesn't look like temps are spiking or voltage load is changing....

The only problem I can see is the folloing from init.log:
[115.437] DBG: NOT Using XML cache, failed to find crc.dat file

When the game is loading it says "Loading XML (uncached)" or something very similar.

My system is Athlon 1900+, 512MB Ram, AMD Radeon 9800 Pro, onboard NForce Audio

Here's the first part of the DxDiag (if you need more, I can post the whole log):

ooops... forgot to say Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help!!

Also noticed this in resmgr.log:

RESMGR: Texture PlayerColor01.tga failed to load
RESMGR: Texture PlayerColor02.tga failed to load

hmmmm.... maybe. But I don't have any slowdowns that I have noticed. And I could play the Fear demo and FarCry okay.

I have had the same experience...I have tried pretty much EVERYTHING, but I still crash without fail every 5-30 minutes.

My system is a beast, so I don't think the speed is the problem:

AMD 64 3800+
Gigabyte GA-KNXP-SLI Mobo
2xXFX GeForce 6600 GT (SLI)
2GB Corsair memory
500GB SATA HDDs (Raid 0+1 Array)
550W PSU

just a guess but processor speed seems too low

His CPU is fine, not great, but good enough. My guess is perhaps a bad install. There's a couple of games that can be picky when it comes to installations. So uninstall Civ4, reinstall apply all necissary patches and try playing again.

Of course that assumes there's no problems with any other game or app you're running, doo.

Thanks for the idea, AgentJones. I have actually uninstalled and re-installed at least 7 times that I can think of, including reformating my hard drive.

I don't have any problems with any other games I play. Well actually, since I reformated my hard drive, I haven't installed any other games. So, I'll install COD or something and make sure I don't have any similar issues. Although, I didn't have any problems with COD or any of my other games before the reformat, while I had the black screens and reboots with Civ 4. But, it will be easy enough to check. Thanks again, AgentJones.

Hi, mason. I'm sorry to hear you have the same unrelenting problem....
