BTS Installation Problem

When the BTS installer starts installing DirectX 9.0c, the installer stops and disappears. Any idea of what this could be? I meet/surpass all the system requirements.

Just the same for me also :(
Installer is installing patch and then it just disappers. Tried with clean install from CIV IV and after patching. Anyone have a clue how to get the installation ok...???

Exact same hassle as the above two.

For something different, had a go at installing the BTS demo to see if the same thing would happen. No worries, installed fine. Tried to install BTS as before, same thing happens, installer checks the DX9 installation, hear the HD working then installer disappears, no error message.

Have installed vanilla Civ IV patched to 1.74 all recommended specs are covered, running XP Pro SP1. Ideas any one?
TIA

Maybe if you install the latest direct x runtime first, the installer will behave? other than that suggestion i got nothin i can think of atm.

2K support sent me an email with a fix for this problem that worked a treat. If anybody wants it just post your email and I'll pass it along.

Sup Civ Fans.

I'm having a similar problem to atmaal. The BTS installer detects my installed version of warlords, attempts to install the newest patch (even though its up to date), and then promptly disappears. There's no option to cancel this patch installation either. My version of direct X is up to date, and I do not have any mods or unofficial patches installed. I purchased my copy of warlords via Steam (and it runs just fine), and I have the boxed version of BTS, which is sitting on my desk, mocking me with its little mech walkers and cyborg soldiers. I tried the 2K tech support, but got a late boiler plate response about how to solve the d3dx9_32.dll error, which I don't have any problems with  . Help me Civ Fanatics, you're my only hope  .

If you post your email I'll forward the email fix to you that worked for me with the same prob. Just a bit long winded to post on the forum is all, but easy to do.

That solution did not work for me as there was no installshield file or directory to rename, however, I did manage to fix the problem through trial and error. The installation that I had, that kept failing was a custom installation, and I also had the "Install to all users" tab unchecked. I uninstalled and reinstalled with the default setting and kept the "install to all users" tab checked. Then when I installed BTS, it worked just fine. I hope this helps someone.

Like josef73, that fix didn't fix my problem, but jose's post did give me an idea which seems to have solved the problem. My unsupported theory is that it's the latest patch that's screwing up the instillation, so I backed up warlords (so I don't have to download it again from steam), uninstalled warlords and civ IV, then reinstalled civ IV from the disk and warlords from the backup, then installed BTS without downloading any patches. Worked like a charm, and all the warlord features seem to be present in BTS.

Hey guys,

I've tried installing the program and I get this error, is this the same thing you have been talking about?

'The patch failed to install! Aborting installation'

Can anyone help? My email is stefanclist@hotmail.com

Sent, hope it works boys, if it doesn't try what leadfootCA did and see if that fixes it for you.

I did not receive the email, rooboy. Reinstalling without the patch didn't seem to help, I'll try again. If only there was a way to not have to install the directx9.

Thinking of that, would it be possible to reinstall Derectx9, as there could be a problem with the older version (from a different game) having been installed over the newer version.

I sent it to you mate and it didn't bounce back. Have you set up gmail to think some emails you receive are junk mail? Maybe that happened. I'll send if off to you again.

Hey Rooboy3118, I get the same message as StefanC and I know I have the proper Civ IV patches installed. Will your fix help me? If so, please send to jejpga@aol.com. Thanks much.

Cleaning temporary folder didn't helm me, but after digging through microsoft support for, like, half an hour I stumbled upon this . Mine started working after the first method, but just read through it. Will fix it, most likely.
