BUG: 1.29 Golden Age Bonus Problem

Here is a picture of what I think is a bug in Golden Ages. London has just completed the colossus and that spurred a golden age. However, I am not getting any bonus production or bonus commerce except on the center tile. In the help, it does not say that the bonus for golden ages depend on government type or anything else like that. I also would expect the Colossus and golden age commerce bonuses to stack.

All of the mined grasslands are bonus grasslands so normally they produce 2 shields.

Is this a bug?

Here is the save file:

Golden Age Bug?

well... you got the colosssus. not everyone can manage that.

2 shields is the maximum under despotism, IIRC. And you're getting a big commerce bonus... 4 GPT from that one to the north of the river, and 2 GPT (1 normally) for each roaded tile. It looks fine to me. :p

I disagree. I have never seen anything which says golden ages and government are tied together.

That tile that is getting 4 is because 1 for road, 1 for next to river, 1 for horses, and 1 for Colossus. It should have 5 in a golden age.

I just realized that the bonus shield in the center remained after my golden age ended so could that be a bonus due to English having the commerce attribute?

It almost looks like its two problems because my colossus bonus isn't showing up on the tiles with roads and rivers either now that the golden age has ended.

Ahhhhh. Didn't see the horses and forgot about Colossus. Hmmmm, not sure about that. You may be right about tweaking the Commercial trait... is it the same way for other cities ... do you have any? If you have a wonder so early then I'm guessing you haven't produced a Settler.

You are in despot. Remember, any tile that produces 3 or more of anything, produces 1 less while in despot. That could be the problem. Because all those tiles that are producing 2 shields, produce that many normally. Golden age brings this to 3, but since you are in despot, it brings it back to 2. This is why I hate golden ages in despotism.

If that's the reason Bamspeedy then it applies to the colossus too. I know that the despot rule applies to normal improvements I just didn't think it applied to bonus from wonders and golden ages. Just one more disadvantage for the English. Their golden age is triggered by both the Colossus and the Great Lighthouse. Two wonders that can be very useful for the english and aren't typical AI targets.

I have no other cities as I am doing an OCC.

Yes, it applies to wonders also. Those tiles that are roaded, but not on a river should only give you 1 gold. But golden age (+1), colossus (+1) = 3 commerce, but is only 2 because of despot.

It looks like the Commerce bonus ( I am getting 2 sheilds somehow in my center square) is not affected by the Despot rule. Nice consistency in applying the penatly to the despots.

The way I see it:

There is either a bug in the help or it should be clarified that golden ages/ wonder bonus are affected by government type.

The new commerce rules are not being affected by despotism and should.

The colossus and golden ages are busted for despotism.

The city center normally produces only 1 shield. So with the golden age you now get 2 (no penalty as it's not 3 or larger). It's always been this way.

Because many terrain square produce around 2-3 shields/commerce you often don't see the bonus because of the despot penalty. However, if the tile was already producing 4 or more, you would notice the difference. Example= 3 commerce (after the despot penalty) + 1 (golden age) + 1 (collosus) = 5 so you still got +2 from collosus and golden age. But tiles having that much commerce is rare (gold on hills, some tiles that have luxuries on them, etc.), that is why players don't like golden ages in despot.

Let me clarify, even after the golden age ended I am still getting an additional sheild in my city center.

You shouldn't be... can you post the save?

What is the city built on? If built on a hill with iron, yes, you get 2 shields. Golden age brings this to 3, but despot drops it back to 2.

Maple,

Just take the save I have above and advance it till the golden age ends. I don't have any saves after the fact.

The city is built on grassland only.

I looked at the save, and yes, after the golden age you were still getting 2 shields! I starved the city back to size 6 (considered a town), and you got 1 shield. I thought industrious civs were the only ones to get the extra shield!?!? The civlopedia states industrious civs get extra shields in cities and metropolises. The worker movements are normal, so I know you didn't add industrious to the civ through the editor.

What the hell sense does it make for the Colossus' effect to be cancelled out by a basic Despotism rule? The G. Wonder should trump that rule about producton under Despotism.

Is it a bug just because it makes no sense? Not necessarily.

Did you install the latest patch?
If I understand it correctly, commercial civs now get the bonus shield.

what??????? then, industrious looses out aginst commercial!

Industrious' shield bonus is not the main benefit for industrious. The double worker speed is still only an industrious trait and therefore, IMO beats commercial hands down.

But it is true that commercial civs in 1.29 get an additional shield at size 7 and 13. That same city now produces 3 shields in its center square.

The issue is still the effect of Despotic governments on Colossus, Golden Ages and the commercial (and now Industrious maybe) trait. As it stands by my reading of the rules for all of these the government type should NOT impact the effects of these game items. Could someone from Fraxis please answer these five questions:

1. Should commercial civs see a bonus commerce and sheild under all forms of governments at city size 7 and 13?

2. Should industrious civs ses a bonus shield under all forms of governments at city size 7 and 13?

3. Should the Colossus bonus apply under all forms of governments?

4. Should the golden age bonus apply under all forms of governments?

5. Is this effect hardcoded in the game or something that is controlled through the editor?
