Bugged Game - Don't know why

[Edit: Please look at the fourth post]

The gist of it is I've been playing normally, no issues, and then suddenly it crashes at the end of a turn. I've played this turn out several times, trying different things (or not doing anything) in an attempt to figure out why it's being buggy with no luck, so I turn to you guys. Normally I'd just discard it since it's hardly like I'm attached to this current game but I figure getting to the source of the issue would be beneficial for myself.

The year in which this happened is "Age of Rebirth. yr. 130", the Armageddon counter is 0, the civilisation is Sheaim being led by Tebryn Arbandi if any of this flags anything for you guys.

I've also enclosed two images of my civilisation* and the error message, as well as a save file of my game one turn before the turn that bugs out (so skip two turns and it should crash). Hopefully some of this will be useful. By the error message I feel that it may be an issue with my computer's acceptance of the game rather than the game itself, but I'm not sure (and wouldn't know how to check either).

*this is my entire civilisation, I feel it's unlikely that there would be any errors caused by how I made my civilisation but if so, these images should reveal what it is.

What patch level are you using?

Sorry to bump this thread again but I felt it better than to make a new one.

I'm having the problem again, with a new game. I can't figure out why, but after it crashed I'm unable to load any of my auto-saves of the game. I was playing as Arendel Phaedra (Elves) and got pretty far into the game (337 AD). I got a trade proposal from Valledia the Even (a bog standard trade relating to Technologies). After rejecting it, my game crashed, and I'm not sure why. I received the same message as before, enclosed on the 3rd attachment of my 1st post.

I can't figure out why it would crash but it refuses to load. I've tried removing the disk and placing it back in with no luck and I've attempted to load from all five of the different auto-saves multiple times. I'm not sure what the bug is but I was hoping someone could help.

I've enclosed all five copies of the auto-save. Hopefully somebody can help me through this, since I'm actually rather attached to this particular game.

It could be a graphical problem.

If a unit/building doesn't have the correct path to it's 3D graphics(or the 3D files are missing/corrupt) then the program will crash once someone gets the activating tech and tries to build the unit/building.

Hmm. But it occurs on all five of the separate auto-saved turns. I managed to play them through first time without any issues either. I've tried several times since to load it without any luck. I've noticed that it frequently cuts out on the loading stage where it says "Initializing", if that sparks any flags for anyone.

Hmm, could be a memory issue also, if you are running low on HD space the system might not be able to create sufficient virtual RAM to meet the games demand - resulting in a CTD.

It looks like the MAF problem, it will be fixed in BtS. There is currently a problem in Civ4 when the game tries to save that it doesnt allocate a big enough buffer or some such (enter techno-garble here; overflow your spinlock buffer queue merkin thread). This can cause crashes when saving or loading saves (which werent written correctly) and is more liekly to occur when there are more object in the game.

The short answer is I wont be able to fix it. For now I would recommend playing on smaller maps. After we convert to BtS this shouldn't be an issue anymore.

I can actually get the game to load up - but it's throwing a Python error as soon as it does. The map size doesn't seem to be excessive and the save-file is only ~240KB - MAF errors seem to normally kick in a good way after 1MB.

I can't see any reason for the problem, but I'll post the python error below.

(I can see why you'd be attached to the game too Micky - looks like you've had a good run :) )

I guess on your advice Kael, I'll stick to smaller maps.

Thanks for loading it Vehem, that Python error might narrow down my problem (assuming that Python error could cause a game to crash on me). And yeah, it may be on a relatively easy mode but it's one of the first games that I feel satisfied with.

Although it's kinda irrelevant, I attempted to load it again. It loaded passed the stage it normally cuts out at (reached about half-way thrrough the bar) but then it cut out again. So I suppose that means that the problem isn't caused by one consistent area that it would cut out at

Edit: Urgh. New game, random crash. It's kinda saddening :( I hope Kael is right and that it'll be sorted by BtS. Out of curiousity though, what does MAF stand for? :/

Edit2: Urgh, and ANOTHER one spazzing out. Started it fresh just after editting my post before with the new one that's spazzed and now this one has to. I think my version of FfH must have a bug or something, this is happening too often to be one off.

You could perhaps attempt re-downloading the FfH2.022 mod and reinstalling it. This should get rid of any problems with corrupt files in the mod directory.

Is your version of Civ4 patched? Have you tried reinstalling Civ4?

BTW, MAF = Memory Alloction Failure. Some people seem to get this when the save games start to get really large.

Ah. thanks for filling me in on what MAF is. And yes, I believe my Civ4 is up to date. I am quite tempted to reinstall it, however, I'd like to leave it as a last ditch thing (although I'm getting to that "last ditch" stage).

According to Kael above, BtS fixed it. Wouldn't hold your breath waiting for bugfix patch for vanilla, but BtS would let you play the next FfH releases too :D
