Build order

I play on noble or prince and the AI never declares war on me. I've played games through as the only good or evil civ in a heap of the opposite and we get along fine and dandy :D

build order- warrior warrior scout (if the first one is dead) worker

Send warrior to next city location and defend. It usually gets a few levels from killing weak barbs.

then settler settler.

I always research the basic improvement techs and a religion first. Then I go for the particular civ's specialisation tree.

I almost never declare war unless i'm an evil civ with a huge army, or i'm confident I can remove a civ from play. As I said the AI leaves me alone.

i typically play on diety difficulty so my build order may be completely messed compared to many but ....

i keep 3 wars defending my starting cities until i can get my first tier 2 units and by then the game has changed a bit.

as far as techs and improvements , it often depends on the terrain
lot a floodplains - i shoot for aristocracy fast
lot a gold - mining and bronzeworking
reagents anywhere close - either beeline magic , or ashen veil

basically starting strat varies highly on terrain and what civ i am playing. if you have specific situations i can help with that can help more though.

Your next game try selecting the Aggressive AI option and see what happens.;)

Even if you have the strongest military in the game weaker civs with death wishes (the Svartlafar are great for this) will constantly declare war on you.

In my current game I had five civs out of nine declare war on me the same turn. Add in the barbs and I was busier that the proverbial one-legged man in an ass-kickin' contest.

I usually build 4 warriors -settler -warrior or two -settler. I don't build workers until Education.
About God King: as I said in "balance feedback" thread, this civic is overpowered for such early game. I always rush for Mysticism to pick it up.
