Building a Computer.

My computer is on the way but I'm now a bit worried. I have read that many DDR2 800mhz RAM brands such as OCZ (the one I got) are incompatable with the M2N32 mobo. Has anyone had any experience on the AM2 Dual Core socket and how it deals with RAM?

Well, if you're waiting till the end of the summer you might want to revise all of that. The buzz is that Intel will be releasing the Conroe chip which will result in drastic price cuts for AMD's and older Pentiums. You might also want to look into socket AM2 which while marginally more expensive is a little more 'future proof' because it utilises DDR 2 memory.
Edit: From what I read AMD has a a pretty rock solid heatsink unless you're doing some overclocking. Perhaps you can save 60 bucks. It's worth a little more research.

Woo-hoo! Finaly recieved all the parts in the mail today. Going to start my build on Friday. Should I bother geting a grounding bracelet or should I just sit at a wooden table and let the aluminium case take my static charge? If anybody has some knowlege about the possible RAM issues it would be much appreciated.

Just to let you know, I've been building PC's for 10 years and have never used a grounding bracelet. I always build on a wooden desk, in my younger days I built them on the carpet (which you would think would be static city), and I've never had any problems. Common sense is all you need...don't lick anything whilst it's turned on and you'll be fine.

:)

As someone else has stated build a bit, turn on and check, build another bit, turn on and check. If you chuck everything in at once then turn on and a problem presents itself, you'll end up having to take it all apart anyway!

Well I did chuck eveything together and apply power and I was kinda worried when I could enter BIOS, but afterwards, I could not boot a disk((CD)). So I tried to upgrade the Bios via EZ flash as I thought it was a memory problem and my mem. supplier gave a trial beta BIOS. Same problem. Tried to revert to the original bios via EZ Flash CD and the putter crashed. Tried to change many BIOS setings provided by my memory supplier and it turns out they rendered the memory useless. Near fatal heart attack. Reset CMOS via jumper and everything reverted to last BIOS. Thank the sweet lord. Called ASUS tech support , and they were useless. Explained my problem to him and all he could say was you're probably going to have to RMA. I Sat, thought, and then set boot Priority to CD first and hallehlujia windows booted. It seems fast and stable, especially now that I've loaded my video drivers.

My latest issue is that the display on my monitor which has DVI input seems very blurry (Even after installation of monitor drivers) Going to try to tweak it soon. Any suggestions are welcome.

PS. didn't get the grounding bracelet and touched the chassy religiosly. I think that clause is just to cover the manufactures ass in case of a very expensive problem.

It's a sad day when tech support can't even explain how to set the CD drive as the 1st bootable device in the the BIOS.

If you've got a blurry display, it's more likely the monitor than the card at fault, unless there's some wierd blur effect turned on...have you got anything else you can plug into the monitor like an X-Box 360 or something?

Yeah I'll just give my folks computer a go I hope I don't have to RMA it I've waited long enough to get this guy up and running. Any advice on what order I should install sofware and drivers?

The way I usually do it is to install any motherboard drivers so all the on-board gizmos and gadgets are working. Then I'll get on the internet and download the latest drivers for EVERYTHING.

I'll then update the motherboard/on-board drivers and BIOS if there is a newer version, and then usually the graphics card, sound (assuming it's not on-board) and then everything else.

I'll rarely, if ever, use the driver disk supplied "in-the-box" apart from the initial motherboard drivers so I can get it working enough to get online and download the latest drivers.

Woohoo! First post from my new putter! Everything seems to be running fairly smoothly I'll give it a few more days as certain issues might pop up. It's kinda frustrating though, I got an e-mail from the company that I bought the processor from, and AMD price cuts have now gone into effect. Had I waited one month I could have saved 200$ CAD on my X2 4200+. Oh well, stuff happens. I cant wait to get thing tuned to the way I want it.
