have your insaney big metropolies or even your average sized cities, build palaces or a powerplant; soemthing that takes a long time to build; in a sense, you are 'que;ing up for a bigger and a better wonder in the future; you 'save up' those store points for wonders to come!

say you want to build a wonder, yyet it's eons and eons away as far as the tech tree goes; start 'saving up' by making your city build something that would normally take forever o build as far as accumulating shields go; then switch over the moment your civ has such a tech to build that wonder; i usually don't let any fo the comps take any wonders this way and win in cultural victory...

yep a well known tactic - the 'palace' exploit as the palace is often used as a pre-build shield store - you just have to be careful not to let it complete or your capital moves!

IIRC, it was even worse in the beginning when you could still build a few palaces. You have a whole stream of cities, saving up shields to build Wonders.

They restricted this during one of the patches. ;)

Uhhhh... I think Steve has commented to the wrong post? If not, then count me one confused puppy.

The other thing to look out for is when it costs more to build your palace than it does the wonder you're saving up for. As your empire gets bigger, the cost of the palace goes up, and if you're saving up for a wonder, then when you get the tech, you may find you've wasted 100 or more shields! Hasn't happened to me yet, but I'm "secretly" building Sufferage, and it will take 7 turns to build it, but building my palace will take 9 turns, so if I'm not watching,......

I'm building in "secret" because even though I will be completing the thing 10 turns before anyone else (man I love factories!), everyone else is at war with some one, and surely a Leader will make an appearance, and I'd much rather the AI use it for an army than to rush the wonder on me.
