I apologise if this has been done before, but here's my summer challenge!

It's 2050

The Carthaginians have got to Alpha Centauri first!

Unfortunately...

Their ship took some unexpected critical damage upon entering the alien atmosphere and plummeted head first into the depths of the ocean!

Luckily...

Plan B was initiated and the crew all piled into the sea-friendly escape pod and made for the surface!

Players, you have one Transport vessel, one Settler, one Worker, one Marine, one Radar Artillery, one Military Great Leader and one very disgruntled Scientific Great Leader with which to begin humanity for a second (?) time!

This is not a mod and all the standard C3C rules apply.

My player v player challenges:

Either be the first to send a Space Ship back to Earth to escape this nightmare, er, I mean report your good fortune!

or

Be the first to take advantage of all the new species and materials and achieve Future Tech 20

or

Be the first to have your cultural borders cover every inch of land, just in case those pesky Sumerians managed to survive that 10th World War that was in full swing when you left, those Sumerians *were* very close to launching at the time...

Here's the save:

Have fun! & look forward to some interesting and varied results!

I hit F10 and do not find any opponents. Do you mean this as a solo challenge to see who can finish first without anyone opponents?

Yes!

But not as in a start from the beginning without opponents...

Prior to it's descent, the ship's computer managed to map the key resources needed for survival.

However, the foliage is at such a state of dominance on this planet that even the ship's computer cannot identify where all the bonus grassland is.

The player will have to make the best choice possible to begin their habitation based on pure intuition!

The computer did register humanoid life on the planet, but at such a prehistoric state that it will be more of a shame to destroy it than a pleasure, but needs must, humanity must prevail!

Not sure that matters all that much here. You only need to build 9 SS parts having an SGL to rush the Apollo Program, and an MGL to rush one of the 640 shield spaceship parts. You have a slew of forests around for chopping in granaries/factories, some nice cash for cash-rushing, and very fast workers.

I would hope (though it doesn't sound like it as this is not a mod) that cash for chopping has been disabled.

Who would you be selling the wood to on an unpopulated planet.

looks fun I'll try it

were do you put it i dont see a saves folder???

I have to say, that's an excellent opening result from Lord Emsworth, just 64 turns to initiate a return journey to Earth, and, not only this, but also taking the Great Wonder Longevity so that many of the initial crew would have survived long enough to return to Earth to gloat upon their achievement and attain all the riches their Earth-bound hierarchy will undoubtedly bestow upon them (not to mention the movie rights...).

I seriously doubt I could even come close to that result, and I've looked at the save game! Definitely an odds on favourite for no.1 spot in that category.

maurcus:

I have the same problem in that the 'saves' file is hidden from view in the conquests folder. I overcame the problem by:

Click START
Click COMPUTER
Double Click RELEVANT HARD DRIVE
Click in the SEARCH box
Type SAVES
and let it search the hard drive for all the SAVES folders

And it will magically appear. Simply download a save then copy and paste it into the newly found SAVES folder. Next time you load up the game and choose LOAD GAME, the new game will be an option :)

Likewise, when you want to post a save simply search for the SAVES folder in the same way then copy and paste that into a regular DOCUMENT file :)

oh I fixed it you just make a saves folder and it will add any saves in that to your other one.
now i have a different problem now it won't let me launch my rocket i built all ten parts and it just won't let me view F10. help

Um... does the story indicate here that you don't understand why he built it? I hadn't thought of building Longevity myself, as honestly I forgot that wonder even existed, but you do know the real reason why he built it, right? I mean... the "and, not only this, but also taking" really seems like a strange phrase to use here... at least to me. Though it doesn't tell the whole story, I feel sure, I'd scratch that phrase you wrote that and write "because of...".

Lol, I have no idea why he built Longevity, but I've no doubt it helped his cause, just like most Wonders do in one way or another, I just thought it gave some extra 'story' to his game :)

In terms of story, Prometheus was my main inspiration for setting up this challenge, as I was amused at the 'unpreparedness' of the crew in that film...

Here's my most recent parody of that film:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sab3X8n-9F0

The film is R rated in America (only 15 in the UK) so it might not be suitable for the under 13s (general warning).

But I have been assured it's quite funny and I hope it makes some of you guys smile some today :p

Why did you give us all those units, including an MGL and an SGL?

As a hint here; what does Longevity do?

Spoiler :
Longevity makes it so that *all* cities increase by 2 in size rather than by 1 everytime they grow. So, by building Lord Emsworth got shields and food into his cities faster than if he had not done so. You don't really find any of the best HoF, except some histographic games, which I would argue could have gone better... and maybe a 20k game here or there, or XOTM games using Longevity.

The spoiler contains the solution.

Like I said, it improves your civilisation in some way or another. Duuuuur.

Edit: After discussion with the Moderators I've been advised never to reply to any of your posts again. Please be aware of this should you be confused by my silence at any point in the future :)

Lord Emsworth, did the Uranium on the south shore of your island look at you wrong??
Played the game right now and tried it with longevity the first time. You just explode on that island.
The only limit is building the space craft - something I've never done before I think since my games always end in domination or conquest.

I have to admit, I totally overlooked that. But it is not easy to spot in the mountains. I only saw it on a clean may with the hills and mountains removed  But as some sort of consolation, the uranium on the other island is right on the coast on a grassland (forest) tile and all you need is a settler and a harbor, which is cheap when you are seafaring.

ETA:
And I think I'll have another go. There is certainly room for improvement. You just need to have a few good producers eventually, maybe 3 or 4, and some hamlets to hook up the necessary resources.

OK, so I have had another go. And this time it is 2103AD. I attached two saves, the final save and an intermediate one.
