If you want to use the editor and you dont mind using VPC for that then you can do the following, go to www.civ3.com and download the update for the pc version. copy your civ 3 conquest folder to vpc (or do folder sharing if you dont mind re-installing if it gets messed up) then install the patch through VPC, go through the art/units, art/terrain and art/city folders on your mac and put the files in their respecting folders (for the editor to run the units, terrain and city images all need to be in the "root" folder as in civilization conquest->art->units etc., on the mac you will have the civ 3 folder with the data folders of PTW and conquest, these folders ALSO contain art, units and city folder. be sure NOT to overwrite the files when you drag copy them to your editor creation. Now you can start the editor when it gives an error click on ignore (you will have to do this twice) and then you can mess arround with the editor
