C3C PBEM Newborns

I notice in the other forum that spoilers keep getting mentioned. Should they be posted post-game or during the game (after the event has happened and everybody knows about it)?

It could be very fun during the game and only kinda interesting afterwards. And these spoilers include devious diplomatic plans and wars, right?

Oh, and a possible exploit could be CXC'ing an enemy after having built the Temple of Artemis just to deny resources.

If you want possible exploits, there's a whole lot of them don't require ToA :p But that definitely would be frustrating.

Spoilers are for both yourself during the game to allow for meditation over your own train of thoughts, for opponents post-game to see what happened when and draw parallels, and for you to ask advice from the other guys lurking in the forums during/after the game. It's a very common practice over at CDZ for every player in a local game to hold spoilers so that people can choose to cheer one side or the other, answer your in-game questions, etc.

Everyone pretty much plays nice (exploit-wise, not war-wise ;)) and expects everyone else to keep the bar just as high. That includes never looting other spoilers :nono: Had I posted my game over there, I wouldn't have bothered with a set of rules in the first place.

Speaking of which, I just re-read them and I'm not sure what I really meant by the cryptic peace offering thing - guess I saw something that sounded sensible in another PBEM thread and tried shadowing it. I'm tempted to scrap it altogether. Well we have time to discuss that, it's not like we'll be at that point next week :p

I see. The thing about spoilers makes sense. Is it okay to post them in the PBEM forum at CivFanatics? Because nobody else seems to be doing so. Would I need to use Civ3 Stories and Tales, Strategy and Tips, or the other forum (CDZ)? Or maybe just spoiler tags.

Rar! I wage cultural war against everyone using the almighty ToA!!!! ... and a settler factory.

Here they would go in stories and tales for sure. Over at CDZ they'd go in Tribute's forum ;) Either way, spoiler tags are always a must.
Speaking of which, if you want to take a glance at what's been happening in the PBEM you mapped for us, there's a spoiler in my cavern.

Wow!!! Very interesting. Though one thing bothers me (in most games involving diplomacy too). The veterans never seem to get attacked early on. Then they build up steam and are undefeatable.... Of course, taking over all of Spain helped too. ;)

Why can't people be annoying and spark early golden ages for their enemies? Oh, you choose Sumeria? I waste 10 shields to waste a future 300 shields and 300 commerce of yours. (And if I beat your Enkidu, I raze the town you were defending.) Though I think that does warrant a dogpile if the victim is aggravated sufficiently. I can think of some very interesting scenarios at this point.

Just checking, but we're currently waiting for the save to be delivered to the first player, right?

Will our passwords also be sent to us or do we establish them on the first turn?

Beam will set it up, Tribute will receive the first save, we'll get stuff by PM and we can start rolling.

Just a bit curious about some of the settings:

SGL: On or Off
Culture Conversions: On or Off
Any change to Statue of Zeus build requirements?

SGL off, flips on, no ivory SoZ? This would best fit the map making thread though. You'll also find out why the game isn't rolling yet, in there.

I guess I'll need to sign up on that forum and post there, thx

No ivory SoZ scares me for some reason. Iroquois are Agri, Commercial. That's already 1 tech towards math. But guess who has the other? :)

2 players have BW
3 players have alpha
1 player has masonry
2 players have pottery

Not a very diverse distribution.

Oh, and does our reputation as a player pass on from other PBEM's we've or we'll be playing? Or is it assumed that everyone who's 'mean' gets punished justly, and they aren't ever considered to be 'mean' afterwards?

No ivory, higher cost, maybe?

I doubt someone who goes mean in a game where he sees a winning opportunity is to be considered evil - though chronic offenders will happen and be found out sooner than later. So I guess the question is: can I beat someone up with impunity if the occasion happens, and I'm on the yes side.

I tried to sign up on the linked forum, but I kept getting denied because of the spam field - I was never able to enter text to the box - So just checking in to see if there's an ETA for this one yet.

Beam said he'd look into it this week-end, he didn't find the map at first glance.

I doubt we can just go ahead and generate a map, crossing our fingers for 4 starts to be balanced.
