I have a question. What is the difference between them, especally to the player and the administrators? The best answer I have gotten is that MUD are more rpg oriented and only admins can create new items. I also understand that MOO are object oriented in programming, but I don't know how this alters the user r admin experience.

The reason for my asking is that I have a fairly ambitious project with this. I'm wanting to create a Civilization mu* where the player is a citizen of the civilization and the collective actions of the players shape how the civilization grows and interacts with others. I am trying to decide the best platform to start working on this, but it would help if I knew the differences between them :)

MUD's are Multi User Dungeons. Basically a Dungeons & Dragons affair.

MUCK's are Multi User Chat Kingdoms. They can be a Dungeons & Dragons affair but they're mostly like a primordial version of Second Life.

MUSH's and MOO's I don't know. It's been so long since I've been on one.
