Hello all. I am new to the multiplayer aspect even though I have been playing civ2 for years. I would love to start a game and get ranked but I have no idea how. Can anyone help me? thanks.

There is a link to the Ladder you can click on in this forum, its on top or below the page called: Ladder. click on this to get to the ladder page. If you cant find it, click on this: www.civladders.com
To play the ladder, you should first read the Frequently asked questions on the page and the rules, then you have to sign up. these options are all in the menu of the Ladder page.
Once you are signed up, you can start looking for a game. You can do this in the zone: www.zone.com
You simply choose civilization 2 in the zone and install the soft ware. Once you are in the civ2gold chat room, you can advertize for a ladder game, by saying: "Civfanatics ladder game anyone?" or "CFL game anyone?"
The ladder isnt very active yet, so it is possible there are no CFL players in the room. You can then advertize a little by posting the URL of the ladder in the chat, and make people sign up. You can also simply send someone in the room a message if they want to play, and when they want to play, you ask them to sign up for the ladder first.
Another way to get a ladder game, is to use ICQ. All members who have ICQ, can fill in their number when they signup. You can check everyones ICQ number from the Member list. What I did was the following: I added everyone that has ICQ on my list (in a special ICQ group ofcourse). There are about 150 people who use ICQ in the member list. This means there are always about 10 members online. Out of these 10, there is always 1 that can play.
As a third option, that isnt very affective mostly, you can use this forum like you just did to schedule a game. But be sure you are VERY specific in the Day and the time if you do so. Time is a very subjective thing on the internet, so be sure you refer to a well known time zone system, like GMT.

Wish they'd set up an auto-updated civ rank servers like westwood has for Command and COnquer, then it would be easier.

I agree, the westwood ladders rule in their automated report systems. Maybe for civIII?
