Can barbarians capture cities?

I have never seen it happen; wondering if it's even possible. Has anyone ever seen a barbarian capture a city or know if barbarians even can capture cities (screenshot, please)? If they can, what do they do with it? I assume they'd just raze it.

No Sorry, it has never happened to me but I am aware of the achievement.

In Civ 5, barbs cannot capture your cities. Even if there is a barb Giant Death Robot in the Ancient Era, it will just reduce your city to 0 health, and die. Barbs, when attacking cities with 0 remeaning health, die.

All they do when they get your city below 0 HP is take a bunch of gold.

Barbarians don't want to capture your city, any more than they want to build a civilization. They should raze it, of course.

OK, capture might be the wrong definition, but I am almost certain you can be wiped out by a barbarian!

Barbarians will not capture a city. These barbarians are so uncivilized, that they would attack your cities foolishly and lose their units.

I think a better approach would be that every attack of barbarians with as result city hp becoming lower than 0 is a combination of loss of gold, loss of population and possibly 1 or 2 buildings razed. If the population is low enough (1-2 pop) the city should be razed completely. For capitals the last option should not apply.

You can't lose a city to a barb in Civ V. The achievement is for them holding it ransom for gold, which happens if the barbs reduce health to zero.

City states though can take cities. There's even a thread about mighty Jerusalem that looks like he's going to follow up his capture of several AI cities with taking their capital.
