Can i just not play civ4 with an ATI Mobility Radeon 7500

First off, please excuse my absolute ignorance of "computer-ese"

ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 IBM Thinkpad R40---

I installed Civ 4, but I just can't play. The avatar selection screen is a very distrubing collection of eyes and teeth---the game itself won't load. I totally undersratnd that I have an outdated laptop, but I cannot afford a new one and I really just want to play this stinkin game, but I am slowly resigning myself to the fact that it just won't happen most likely, at least on this laptop.

If this belongs in another thread, please direct me to where I should go. Thanks

As far as I can tell, no new drivers have been put out for the ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 that my laptop has. So, basically, i won't be able to play the game.

can i get a yes? a no? heck, a maybe would be really nice, from anyone in the know that is.

I tried it on my laptop with an ATI Mobility Radeon 7500. I get the strange faces & black terrain-problems. I guess we have to wait until the patch is released to see if it fixes the prolems.

As far as i know, the game should work with this card.

good to see that i'm not alone with this problem

i downloaded the omega drivers, but that didn't do any good--at least the game didn't crash on me as it had prior at least.

I guess we wait, unless anyone has an ideas.

This worked for me, but, it is not a final solution since the land graphics look kind of crappy, but at least you can see the people and the terrain.

Under the display properties there is something called SMARTGAR (tm), set it to off and try running the game.

It worked (poorly) for me but at least playing civ iv in crappy graphics is better than not being able to play it at all. I just hope 2Kgames will acknowledge that there is a huge problem with the game and starts doing something proper to fix it, i.e. a patch.

2,4 GHz Intel
Mobile Radeon 7500 64mb
1 GB ram
XP Sp2
And more stuff that does not matter,

I got the black terrain issue only when I tried 1.3 shaders. 1.1, 1.4, 2.0... those worked fine (no shaders was best performance-wise but looked really bad).
Get a copy of rivatuner and set shaders to 1.1, see if that helps.

GoatBoy, Sorry I can't see this option anywhere in the screen advance properities. Is this because your refering to the Omega drivers and I'm still using the latest ATI drivers?

Im was wondering the same thing. I tried Rivatuner, but couldnt find the shader-settings anywhere.
