I'm finding it very hard to see the underlying terrain after exploring parts of the map when they're under the Fog of War. How can I make the fog a little less dark without eliminating it altogether?

Press <CTRL>-B? :crazyeye:

ED: Oops, didn't see the eliminating it. Do you mean, eliminating it via a cheat? Or via CTRL-B?

OTOH, CTRL-B doesn't allow you to see WHICH cities or CULTURE occupy a plot, so increasing (or is it decreasing) the gamma should work if you can find where it actually causes the fog (I think it might be in the C++ part).

huh? control+b is a cheat to see all the map?

Control+b reveals the terrain under the fog, but not the units, which is close to what I was after. But having come this far, I tried an experiment by modifying the file ...Assets\XML\Interface\CIV4ColorVals.xml, the entry COLOR_ALPHA_GREY has an fAlpha value of .45 (transparent grey color). I thought maybe that was the value for the dark fog.

Changed fAlpha to .15

I put the modified file in ...CustomAssets\XML\Interface and deleted the cache.

No effect. :(

Did I do right to put the changed XML data file there?

Oh but it doesn't reveal the whole map, right? Just the parts that you discovered but don't have units/cities nearby?

That's right. It doesn't reveal unexplored areas.

Why isn't that by default? I mean I was suffering to remember the areas I explored and even tried to draw a map and increase the screen's brightness!
