Can somebody tell me how the battles are gonna work?

ok ive never played any civ games but this one caught my eye and got me interested but there is NO information whatsoever on how the battles are gonna work.
can somebody tell me whats gonna happen? is it gonna be AOM style or is gonna be Rome total war style or just two big guys hittin each other and you having no control over what happens?

We don't know precisely how combat will work in CivIV, as the game designers have altered the way units attack and defend in such a way that we no longer know the formulas involved. In CivIII, it was statistical. The attacking power of the attacking unit, plus any bonuses for morale, was compared to the defending power of the defending unit, plus any bonuses for morale, the terrain type, and so on. That ratio determined the chance that one unit or the other would be injured.

no no no what i mean is are we gonna be able to control the units or will it just be two big guys with flags hittin eachother?
its actually a very stupid questiond but just to be sure

You will only tell the unit to attack, then the unit will be animated and fight the other unit. The outcome will depend on the unit class's the terrian theirs on and promotions those units have recieved, but you wont control their actions!!

yeah, its just gunna be two guys hitting eachother, civ isint supposed to be a fighting game, if you controled more of the combat you would never finish a turn

ok so it will be two guys (like the ones shown on the pictures with flags in their hands) hittin each other and the winner will be determined by the amount of soldiers in that guy and how much experience and what not they have
