Can someone explain Capture the Princess?

I decided to try the Capture the Princess feature for fun this evening. Well, I've been playing for some time now, and have conquered two of my neighbor Civs, the Russians and the Germans. Both times, their Princess units were in their capital cities, which I captured. When I did so, their Princess units were there in the city.

Now, it says in the Civilopedia that I can "capture" the Princess with a military unit, and then I am supposed to take it back to my capital city. However, the only thing I could find to do was "rescue" the Princess with a military unit. When I have a unit do this, the enemy Princess disappeared and apparently respawned back in the enemy's new capital. It said this is supposed to happen when I take the Princess back to my own capital? Also, it says that if there is nowhere for the enemy Princess to respawn, IE that Civ has been wiped out, she remains in my capital city, and I get another set of bonus points. Well, I've wiped out the Russians, have the Russian princess still sitting in Moscow, and I'm afraid to use the Capture feature as it seems she'll just disappear?

So, can someone tell me HTF this is supposed to work?

Well,

It seems like you already knwo how to capture a princess and how to bring it back to your capital.

For those who don't, when playing such a scenario, when one of your troops arrive in the same spot as a foreign princess a new button with "capture" appears. Then the princess as is disappears and the capturing unit will have a " ' " after its name (not so convenient to read). Then this unit should go back to your capital. At that moment, the princess is separated and instantly goes back to your enemy capital.

Now if this enemy has been destroyed, you just get extra points but you still cannot see the princess who supposedly stays in your capital.

But I admit I don't know, even though invisible to you, if this foreign princess actually remains stuck in your capital to be capturable by other civs.

Oh so you have to capture her AND destroy the civ?? I wondered why I never was getting any bonus points.

Well, you get points for taking her to the capital AND the bonus if at that time her civ has been destroyed and she is forced to stay in your capital.

I don't get a "Capture" button, the only thing that appears is a "Rescue" princess button. Is that the same thing? This is when moving one of my units into the tile containing an enemy princess.
