Hi

I'm from Australia, just bought civ4 today and installed it with no problems. Now I'm getting the Cannot Locate the CD-ROM / Please Insert the Correct CD-ROM error whenever i try to start the game and i have the DVD version. I know people get this error with the mislabed CD but with a DVD?!?!?!?!

Also, I have tried this on my friends computer and the game runs fine!!! by the way the game is awesome! This is why I'm so frustrated.

Any help would be really appricated.

Thanks,

I even tried creating an image file and opening it with Daemon Tools.

SAME ERROR!!! :( :( :( :( :(

omg this is getting me so angry, this error just makes no FREAKING sense

Do you have a second optical drive?
I installed from one drive but had to insert the disc in a different drive to play.

Make sure you don't have certain tools installed on your computer such as Alcohol, CloneCD, etc. A lot of these games "blacklist" those tools being installed on your computer and won't run the game unless they are removed. I personally think its a crap practice, as not everyone uses these tools to pirate. I for one keep images of a lot of cds (tech cds, games, software, whatever) on my hard drive so I can quickly access them without having to drag the cd out. We live in a day and age where hard drives are quickly replacing optical media, let us take advantage of this technology without punishment!

The disc were mislabeled in the US, so try using the install disc instead of the play disc.

The OP has the DVD version of the game... there's only one disk, so this is not the answer.

I'm just wondering, though... can you not start the game by removing/re-inserting the disk? My Civ III CD would start up this way with a menu giving an option to 'run game' on it so I assume Civ IV would do the same (don't have my copy yet to check this though)? Just a thought, anyway - if the disk runs OK when inserted then it can hardly complain about not finding the drive, can it! :crazyeye:

Civ4 commes with a protection that says "no CD" when you are running an emu program such as deamon tools, Alcohol 120%. Turn those off and try again.

So making an image to run it actually guarantees it doesnt work. There is a sort of program to fix this but if i mention it the admins will heva my head on a stake.

So disable emuplating programs first and try again.

Sorry I got confused somewhere in the language I guess with CD-ROM and Dvd.

try this i had a similar problem on broken sword 2 what i did was i uninstalled it and re-installed it on my dvd rom drive once installed only play it on that drive u installed it on hope that helps

That is the exact problem, in fact. It's a "feature" of SafeDisk v4, which is the copy protection that Civ IV uses. It blacklists both Deamon Tools and Alcohol 120%, and does so by just creating no CD errors, regardless of whether or not the CD is availiable, or whether the CD you're running the game from is the real deal or an image. SafeDisk v4 doesn't care. the simple existance of D-Tools, Alcohol, et al on a system is what triggers the protection to kick in.

Simply turning off D-Tools or Alcohol is not sufficient, as SafeDisk v4 scans your computer for various entries that reveal the presence of those (and other, similar) programs. The only two ways to fix this are A) uninstall your D-Tools, Alcohol, et al. or B) use a program that hides the existance of these programs from SafeDisk v4. A) is easy enough, B) may get me in trouble with this board's anti-piracy policy, so you're on your own to figure that one out.

However, B) is the option I used as I feel that forcing me to delete other programs to play a game I payed for is incideous. My box, my money, my game, and I'll play it however the hell I want to, with whatever the hell other software I want to, thank you very much.

I have D-Tools and I have CloneCD both installed on my computer and the game runs fine for me if i have the CD in the drive. I run into problems when i try and play off an image though, that's when i'm getting the no cd error.

I haven't found a 'hider' utility that works 100% of the time either.

Use security code emulator software to bypass security check. That should solve the problem ;)

Got my copy today in mail but :(
Argh I got the same problem!
Got the dvd version and uninstalled alchohol and daemon tools but it still says 'can't find the correct cdrom!' even though I unistalled both programs.

Trying to find that hide program now on the net

Oh, I thought I'd get in trouble if I posted a link to that...moderators confirm/deny?

Moderator Action: Definitely a grey area, at best. I have temporarily hidden lugersci's post with link until I get clarification. --Padma

Found my own link :) Funny though yes.
Very happy now but how to get the music going in civ?
can't find it in options and I don't hear music.

That's a new one... Safedisk v4 should have generated a no cd error on your system regardless of whether you're running the game from an image, from CD, or even if you shut down D-Tools, Alcohol, etc. Must be nice... having a computer that dumb copy protection scheems can't arbitrarily mess with... you'll have to tell us what you did to let you run Safedisk v4 without a hider util.

And there are hider utils that work 100% of the time... sd4hide is not one of them, though... sorry to be a tease, but with the mods being unsure and all, I don't even feel comfortable telling you which program to look for. But if you know where to look, you'll probably stumble across a good hider util without much hard looking.

I have the same problem, only in 4 out of 5 tries my game will start up without throwing this error. It's the same with all dvd-roms right now though, so I'm afraid maybe the game ruined something?
