cannot view any land

the minimap shows the classic green land with blue sea.

but on the main screen everything is black. i can see my men, my settler and my city when i settle. but everything else is black.

also... on loading, the opening video stutters every 3 seconds or so.


sorry dont know my specific comp. graphics card or any of that.... any help please?

I'm having the same issue - using and IBM Thinkpad R51 laptop - if anybody finds a solution to this, please let us know! Using latest drivers, installed the directx off the game.

well. i know i am on a MDG computer?
with a 52x32x52x cd rom drive.
i have plenty of room left on the hard drive, over 70GB's and am running Windows XP

Same problem as well. Also, my advisors are like ghosts, I only see their teeth and their glasses. Everything else seems to look ok.
Running a dell but the video card is onboard, latest drivers.
Intel Extreme Graphics 2 (Driver: 6.14.10.4363)
Don't know if my video card can handle this or not.

Hello all, I am having the same problem, my land is black just like is described in the first post on this thread. But I can see my advisors. And I also have got it to work with the great plains mode.

Any help would be appreciated.

My video card is a little below specs, but I don't think that is really the problem.

I have a toshiba satellite 2455-s305 and the video card is a Geforce4 420 Go card with 32mb of video ram. But the rest of my specs are fine 512 ram, 2.4Ghz pent 4.

Anyway, thanks in advance for helping.

It's your video card. make sure you upgrade to the recommended not the minimum and I suggest at least 256MB on the video and 512MB on the system
