Playing Germany I early on took a phanteneon (spelling?) named sacred waters for 1+ happiness on rivers. Some time after that I founded Protestantism and the tithies for 1+ gold for every 4th follower and then peace gardens for happiness 2+.

I´m trying for a cultural victory and realised the cathedarl belief would be a must. But once I got a prophet and choose to enhance my religion there was no cathedral choise for my 2nd follower belief!

Am I missing something here to choose cathedral belief? The only thing I can choose is the pagodas building but I´m out after the art slots!

Please, any help is appreciated.

Ps: I´m not sure if the cathedral choice was even there when I took my first belief. But why???????

some other civ either founded a religion, or enhanced a religion and chose cathedrals for themselves.

What dac said. Also, Cathedrals are hardly necessary for a Culture Victory. Mainly only used when you want to get an early start on stashing GW of Art due to an early Artist's Guild.

Under the religious screen you can see which religions have been founded, by whom, and what effects they chose. Probably an other religion took cathedrals.
But no sweat.. you can easily win a culture victory without them. Getting a few wonders will net you enough slots to fill to your harts content!

Which isn't really necessary since artists create golden ages which are also helpful in creating tourism

I have yet to run out of art slots in a culture game, but then I do usually build the culture wonders.

its really annoying when you have lots of wine and incense near, and you got the pantheon for it, but some douche AI ran off with monasteries

I know those feels,
Having 5 camps, Ivory and Elephant near your capital and getting beat to the extra food pantheon.
All Jungle Start Sacred Paths taken

If you're playing Brazil, yes. Otherwise, not sure what you mean.

If you're on higher diffs, you got no assurance of getting Sistine Chapel (the first of the art-slot wonders, discounting Parthenon). Uffizi's a better shot, but wthout either, it becomes noticable that the artist guild and museum are separated by two eras.

The palace should have a couple of art slots IMO, and maybe a theming bonus.

The palace art slots are problematic because apparently the art inside disappears when another civ conquers it.

On Sistine chapel, the AI seems to rush for the Globe while putting off Sistine until later, I usually have no trouble getting it.

Yes, you should definitely try not to let that happen. :)

Odd, I've usually experienced the reverse.

At any rate though, I wouldn't say that the existence of wonders in-between artist guild and museum really addresses the multi-era gap.
