Can't escape the Mighty Khan!

No matter what Mod I load, or which leader/civ I select to play as, I always end up hearing the same words, "All Hail the Mighty Khan!"

Then, once the scenario has loaded, there is always a window at the top of the screen the shows:

Major Civs to Destroy: 11
Turns Left: 100 Briefing

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong, besides being a noobie to Civ5? I swear I followed all the instructions on how to load mods. What the heck is going on?

I already feel ashamed for having paid money for this shiny, compiled heap of disappointment, but I at least want to find some way to console myself over enjoy my bad investment. I should have just bought a 1 oz silver coin!

Sounds to me like you've got the Mongol scenario active, try turning it off.

Now, I guess I'll have to start looking for more explanations of how to recognize and control happiness, food supply, income vs expenditures.
